Isaac Redman is at his preferred playing weight, something he credited for the 22-yard touchdown run he ripped off in the Steelers' 16-7 loss to the Washington Redskins on Friday night.

Jonathan Dwyer has dropped some weight but said that endeavor is still a work in progress.

Both are eyeing increased roles this season, with Redman hoping to siphon carries from workhorse Rashard Mendenhall and Dwyer looking to earn a spot in the running back rotation after playing in just one game last season.
Redman is off to the better start...........

I'm hoping Redman gets significantly more touches last year. He has a nose for the end zone and is better at going North/South.

They should teach Redman to throw TD passes from inside the 10-yd line ala Jerome Bettis.

He earned the backup spot , but I'd like to see Dwyer and Clay run behind Pouncey and the starters at some point this preseason.

I'm hoping he gets more carries too. We dont want to have to depend only on Mendenhall and also don't want to carry him to death. Let Redman take some of the load off.

I am a Big Red fan and would like to see a whole lot more of him this year.

The guy is impressive. Just keeps those feet moving through contact. I see no reason why he shouldn't get more carries this year. Mendenhall needs to get to under 300 carries. Last year we had about 375 carries between the 2 of them. It was about 325 Mendenhall to 50 Redman. Assuming about 375 carries this year too (which I actually think will be less because we will throw the ball more) I think it should be around 275 to 100. The point is that Redman is more than capable of carrying more of the load and taking a part of the beating away from Mendenhall, so I dont see a reason why not to give him more carries this year. But hey, my name is not Mike Tomlin so what do I know. Maybe Redman getting more carries is not a good decision at this juncture.... :chuckle:

Redman played well last year and hopefully having more carries will keep the tread on Mendenhall's tires.

It's not in Tomlin's character NOT to over use a workhorse back...lol.

man, can you imagine if Clay and Dwyer match their true potential. Them with Redman would just be an unfathomably violent bludgeoning backfield

When asked if Sweed, who has been nursing a sprained shoulder, didn't play because of an injury, Tomlin said, "He didn't play."

:rofl2:

I agree that he should be getting more carries; he has earned it plus it spells Mendy which is what he needs.

I've been really impressed with his play as of now. I too hope he gets more attempts this year, but I still want Mendy to get over one thousand yards.
