Youngsters attending Coach Mike Tomlin's youth football camp at Mars Area High School (http://kdka.com/local/Ben.Roethlisberger.Camp.2.1768083.html#) got a surprise visit from Steelers Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger today.

Throughout the week, Steelers players Heath Miller, Brett Keisel and Chris Hoke have spent time working with the campers at The Old Spice Coach Tomlin Football Camp.

Along with Steelers Linebacker James Harrison, Roethlisberger stopped by the campus to spend time with the kids (http://kdka.com/local/Ben.Roethlisberger.Camp.2.1768083.html#) on the final day of the camp.

For the last two years, Roethlisberger has led the camp; and earlier this week, Tomlin told KDKA that he fully expects the QB to be back at the helm next year.

While campers like Erick Taylor of Garfield have been enjoying their time with Coach Tomlin, some youngsters who attended the camp in previous years said they missed having Roethlisberger around.

"Ben used to play with us more," Bethany Carcaise of Illinois told KDKA on Monday. "He acted like a kid!"

"It's just weird," camper Ross Greece added. "Like Ben's a good guy and he does something weird like that -- just breaks some people's heart how it happened and stuff."

"I feel bad because I don't think he deserves to be put through this all the time," Carcaise added.

Steelers Tight End Heath Miller helped fill the void earlier this week. "You know, we'll all step in and pick up the slack for him."

"I know that Ben's looking forward to moving forward and he's excited about it," Miller continued. "As teammates we've got to be there for him and move forward as well."

Coach Tomlin, who brought his own 8- and 9-year-old sons to the camp, said he fully expects Ben to run the camp next year. "That is our full intention, absolutely. In the meanwhile, I get to babysit it and that's fun (http://kdka.com/local/Ben.Roethlisberger.Camp.2.1768083.html#) also. I might be back next year, too!"

KDKA's John Shumway spoke to Ben Roethlisberger at the camp today. Hear what the Steelers quarterback had to say on KDKA-TV News starting at 5:00 p.m.

The kids love Big Ben and don't think anything is going to change that.

These are the things he needs to do to win back some of the fans.

I bet most of the kids were asking about Ben and Tomlin felt like an appearance would be a positive thing. I hope we see more from Ben before training camp.

I have the gut feeling that years down the road, Ben is going to come out of this on the positive side. Once the Nevada trial is over (and hopefully he wins the counter suit), I'm betting that he will talk about that night in Georgia and the truth will finally come out. And he better have learned his lesson about putting himself in these positions once and for all.

The videos are up....3 of them. Ben had a ball and the kids......well, see for yourself. It didn't take much to win them back. You could see the joy on their faces and I'm sure every parent of a kid who caught a pass from Big Ben is very grateful to him tonight.

Nice start, Ben.

I have a feeling that Ben would have done the whole camp, but surprising those kids was a good job to.

Good start. Next up, more donations to children's charities. More "surprise" showings at children's events.

And keep your stupid nose clean Ben!
