Thanks, we got it in the other threads you mentioned. I wish him well. HOPE he is not injured too bad. But I have given up on him A LONG time ago. To me, he is a waste of whatever we are paying him.

Such a shame...hopefully its not serious...as I was hoping they'd give him as many chances as they could during the preseason...and if he "fails" then he'll be gone.

Is there any truth to the story that Sweed hurt himself during today's filming of the Batman movie ? I heard he was trying to Block " BANE ".....and hurt his shoulder

steeldevil

No! SWEED!! :jawdrop2:

But seriously, if it is serious then he is gone. Feel bad for him, but this is a business and if he can't stay healthy then he will be cut. Hopefully it is not too bad and he can get back in camp and compete.

True but, with a seperated shoulder, even a minor one, you will likely be inactive for at LEAST 4 to 6 weeks best case scenario. If the tear is really bad, you're looking at 12-16 weeks to heal.

I got news for you all. Sweed wasn't going to make the team anyway. The only thing this injury might do is get him a nice injury settlement as a consolation prize on his way out the door, as you can't cut a player who's on the injured list without making some accomadation.

There's must something physically not right with the kid. I think sometimes, certain people's bodies just are able to handle the stress and endurance the NFL places on them, regardless of talent or anything else.

Come to an agreement, pay him. Let him go, and tell him that if he wants to come back, he'll be a camp invite next year.

This could be a blessing in disguise. Now maybe the Steelers will look for an actual receiver to take his place.

If he's getting injured this regularly in practice (this is already his second injury in 2 weeks after being out all last year) he'd never make it through the season as a starting receiver. Go ahead an pull the plug.

Looks like he tried to practice but wasnt able to finish due to his shoulder (same with J Scott and his ankle).

I still think he will succeed somewhere, but I doubt it will be in Pittsburgh. He's going to need a couple of very strong pre-season games to stick, and because he's hurt, I don't see it happening.

He has too much talent not to be given a chance somewhere else.

Here is what I cannot grasp. There are "fans" here (some worse than others), who do nothing but gripe about how bad players on our roster suck. Players who have contributed, players who have made, relatively speaking, far fewer mistakes and screw-ups then Sweed on a per-play basis. Yet, somehow this kid just keeps getting love.

Why?

Alonzo Jackson was also loaded with talent. That's why we drafted him so high. He did more than Sweed, yet people were ready to run him out of town on a rail. There are a couple people bashing the shit out of Woodley, and all that dude does is make big plays! But, here we are, in a giant love fest with a guy who caught all of seven passes in three years.

Let's review:
2008 caught 6 passes for 64 yards. Dropped almost that many, including a sure TD in the AFCCG He also fumbled twice, and lost one of them.
2009 had one lousy catch for five yards. Dropped another TD pass in the endzone which may have cost the game against Cincinnati (We lost by 3 points)
2010 Nothing. Limas Sweed's regular season stats last year equaled mine.

If the kid makes the team, he'll have earned it, but, please, let's keep this in perspective here.

C'mon, get on the bus! You know you want to! :chuckle:

Seriously, I think it's pretty much a foregone conclusion that Sweed is history - it's just a matter of which cut date "The Turk" will be visiting him. Speaking only for myself, I'm just having some fun with it until he is shown the door. Can't really feel too badly for him - he got a nice shiny SB XLIII ring out of the deal.

steelpride12

I just think it's too late for the kid. Yes I know he has the talent and probably will end up being an excellent fit for a team somewhere else. The kid had his chances his, but the injuries lagged him behind and now even though he is practicing I still think it's too late and a cut will be imminent.

Just guessing, but the difference between Sweed and Jackson is offense vs defense. It's the same reason why there was more fanfare in bringing back Plaxico Burress after a jail stint than the initial signing of Ryan Clark several years back. Offense sells.

People want to see Sweed succeed because of his ability, because if he ever gets it going, it's going to be really good. Living in Texas, I watched Sweed and saw his big playmaking ability. The receiver I watched there is not the guy we've seen in Pittsburgh. I don't think it will happen in Pittsburgh any longer. I do think he will get another chance though.

Beyond a 2 sack game in a Preseason game, I don't remember Jackson ever doing anything for the Steelers.

I don't get the bashing of Woodley.

Zo was a special teams player. He's listed as having 24 tackles as a pro. That counts for more in my book then dropping a bunch of passes, losing a fumble, and making one block.

By the way, he is listed as a free agent. We should bring him in and take a look. He's faster and skinnier than Woodley.

Personally, I had hopes for Jackson as well, but much like Sweed, it didn't work out. 24 Tackles on ST is hardly anything to write home about either, unless he happened to make a tackle as epic as Ben's. From what I remember about him, he hardly every dressed. A special teams ace is a Fred McAfee, or a Chidi I...., or an Anthony Madison.

Doesn't matter to me what Jackson is doing these days. Just hope he's alive and doing well. We have our LOLB for years to come. Like I said earlier, I don't get the criticism of Woodley.
