Justin Hartwig played four years of high school football and four more years at Kansas University before an eight-year career in the NFL. In those 16 seasons, Hartwig said he was diagnosed with a concussion by a doctor one time, but he said he was concussed at least 10 other times.

Hartwig, the starting center for the Steelers in Super Bowl XVIII who retired before the 2010 season, is glad head injuries and better benefits for retired players are being discussed as part of the new collective bargaining agreement the NFL and the players union are negotiating.

"There are so many times you wake up in the morning, it's two-a-days, and the very first time you hit, you get a splitting headache," Hartwig said Thursday morning at a Steelers youth camp at West Allegheny High School. "Every time you hit somebody your head is ringing. It's a bad feeling................
