I don't want to come off wrong here, because I love and respect the heck out of Hines, but if Hines, Stallworth, and Swann were all on the same team together Hines would be the qb's third option. The stats don't tell the story, because they played in different era's, but the plain truth is that Stallworth and Swann peak value talent wise are on a plateu with all timers like Paul Warfield, Don Hutson, and Jerry Rice, they had very few peers in the entire history of the game. Ward isn't on the same level skill wise, but he's great nonetheless, but in a different category. Hines is a grinder, as a pass catcher he's more on the level with guys like Fred Biltenikoff, and Ray Berry, only a more physical version of each. Don't worry there's a spot in Canton waiting for Hines when he finally hangs 'em up, but as far as being the greatest wr in Steelers history, not a chance folks.

I went with Swanny and my list of reasons why would take me quite a while to type. :tt03:

If I were a Steeler's coach, in the SB, and playing against the top secondary in the league, and had only one choice ... I'd have to go with Swann.

While Stallworth and Swann may have been better pure receivers all things considered I choose Hines Ward.

Love them all, but Ward would be my 3rd choice. My top choice is Stallworth. That over the shoulder catch for a TD against the Rams is classic Stallworth.

Stall worth could get deep on cb, catch passes in traffic and was a willing blocker. The most complete WR the Steelers have ever had.

Ward was never a deep threat, Swann never a blocker.

Its close between Hines and John, I understand Swann made some big time catches but I cant get over the fact he only had 336 receptions Franco had 306 as a RB I know different era but that number I just cant over look. Plus Swann had a HOF QB his whole career. John had better numbers then Swann and to me I love watching the older footage of Stallworth. But I vote for Hines.

Hines, what an amazing WR he has been for us through out the years.

Sentimental and spectaculor catches: Swann.
Underrated, should be in hall, clutch and stretched the field: Stallworth
Heart and soul of today's Steelers team: Ward.

Being a Steelers fan: Priceless.

Seriously, all things considered, I go with Stallworth.

Hines: Better stats, excellent blocker, ton of heart, and came up big in Super Bowl 40

A tie between Hines and Stallworth with Swannie a close second. I just wish I could see Hines take out Tatum and Atkinson.

This^ 100% agreement here........... In my heart it's Hines, but in reality it's Stallworth, Swann, Ward..........

All have made game changing catches in the SB. However, Swann and Ward are the two MVPs. You cannot compare all three in the same manner as they are different among themselves. The only inarguable fact is that Lynn Swann has made some of the most spectacular catches in NFL history.

I'm usually an old-school guy, but old-school is exactly why I'm going with Ward. He could play in any era.

Also, I know Stallworth was tall, especially for his time, but Hines Ward would have been a monster had he played back in their day. He's bigger, stronger, and faster (way faster than Swann) than either of the other two, and in an era when MLB's were about the size of Troy (Lambert played at about 8 lbs less than Troy does), he'd have wreaked havoc on secondaries when he was out in the open.

Have to go with Stallworth. When Swann got hurt (more than once) Stallworth was always able to be the guy and with no one to take the attention from him on the other side. Hines is my favorite Steeler, but as a Coach I would have to go with Stallworth.

Great question...and though I tend to be old school, I have to go with Ward. I think 20 years from now, the court of public opinion will be that Ward was the best WR to ever wear Black n' Gold.

As someone else mentioned, I love 'em all, but I still gotta give the edge to the REAL MVP of SB XIV (sorry, Terry):

Yep. This guy is the one that really set a standard for the WR position. If you ask a fan the question this thread addresses, they'll probably say Hines or Stallworth. If you as an NFL WR this question, almost all will say Swann. From Jerry Rice on down to the unknown's have said that Swann is their template.. and he just happened to be a Steeler. His stats aren't up there, but remember he retired only at the age of 30... and the Steelers were not a passing team. In today's NFL, this guy would have his own show.

Agreed. Terry actually had a less than stellar game. 3 picks. Johnnie Stallworth took over that game with 2 catches. SB XIV was put on his shoulders when Swann went down
