Stories reporting Ike Taylor (http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/T/TaylIk20.htm)‘s intentions on staying with the Pittsburgh Steelers (http://steelerschronicle.com/) franchise are running rampant throughout Steeler Nation’s internet showcases, and as I’ve said before (http://www.steelerschronicle.com/2011/05/pittsburgh-steelers-re-signing-ike-taylor-is-just-a-matter-of-time.html/), it is absolutely imperative that he gets a new contract with the team.

But, that being said, even if the Steelers long time starter is brought back into the fold, the position is still one of great need for the team, with no true starting caliber back on outside of Ike, the vaunted defense is able to take away only half of the field. That, is indeed, a large problem..........

I'm not sure I buy this IF we resign Ike. We will have Ike, McFadden, Gay, Madison, Butler, and Lewis (who should be ready to play now), plus the two new kids, of which it's not stretch to expect contributions from Brown right away. That's 8 CB's...and we need ONE guy to step up and play across from Ike.

Now if he does NOT sign, that's a different story...

I'm not counting on anything from Lewis. He SHOULD have been ready to play last year and he didn't even make a mark on special teams.

In all fairness to him, he did have a few special teams tackles. Not near as madison who's the ace, but at least not completely useless. He's too much of an enigma for me to even consider him as our 4th corner though. Has had quite a few chances and always seems to find a way to blow it.

But with gay and madison being FAs (and very likely not to be back) I can't say the guy has no chance to make the roster

No name on that list is possible though. All of them, except Harris, will demand a big contract anyway. I'd rather stick with what we have

I agree. Couldn't have said it better myself. :drink:

Assuming that there's a salary cap under the new CBA, there wont be enough money to sign Ike, Woodley, AND another starting quality corner.

But if we sign Ike, we won't NEED to sign another corner.
