Missed this by a day, but it was 30 years ago yesterday. For anyone who doesn't respect the feat, consider this:
In pro baseball history, there have been only TWENTY perfect games. Eighteen since 1900. Think of it...almost every day between April and September there are 14-15 MLB games. EVERY DAY. Half the year there are that many games. Then there are the playoffs. They've been playing pro baseball for 135 years. How many thousands upon thousands of games, and there have only been twenty perfect games? It's astounding...
I watched a re-broadcast of Len's performance yesterday, including commentary from him and many involved figures. It was as amazing today as it was back then. Tip of my hat to Barker....
