Brown has very good playing speed, and great closing speed. he can go vertical with a 37 1/2 inch leap. He is the one CB I have stuck with all year.

4th round--- I kinda Zack Hurd OG

Decent hands/ball skills?

Decent hands/ball skills?

Very good hand, but plays more for pass breakups than Ints. He likes to lay off the WR till the ball is in the air, then use his closing speed to get to the ball. That will not work as well in the pros, but he will adjust. He is light, but a decent tacker, and I think is more physical than Williams. I said before, I think he can be better that Williams.

Interesting. Plus he wasnt their #1 CB either...he was back there with Williams...and also that Chykie or whatever guy. Can he start this year you think? Or just on spot duty/etc?

Nice list...though I dont see Romeus as an OLB for the Steelers.

I think now that they got players at the top 3 needs...they can go a number of ways and people wont be mad. Another OL? RB/TE? LB? Even K?! Should be a fun day...though i will miss it all.

I think he will see significant playing time, but I do doubt that he will start this year, unless Ike walks on us.

Like I said, I like Hurd, but remember Cannon is still there and I see him as possible switching to OG. His heath problem kept him from being drafted very early 2nd round. Want to roll the dice on him? Some one is going to.

I'd risk a 4th...though I'd be happier to risk a 5th, haha. The OL could be interesting...does Colon re-sign...where does he go...stay at RT? Move to RG? What about the unknown Chris Scott...hes a RG/RT also...could he be a potential starter? Is Gilbert 100% RT only or do they think he can play LT too? Theres even Foster who played decent at RG. Lots of questions for sure...which make me wonder if they'd use another pick on the OL or what.

Wow! I'm just amazed, and very happy, that Brown was still there in round 3, especially after that mini CB run. I'm very happy with our first 3 picks and it goes to show once again that our FO knows what they're doing. The rest of this draft is gravy.

Right on...much happier with this years draft compared to last years first 3 rounds. Pouncey was great then the next 2 (Woirlds and Sanders) were "huh moments"...and some say they were over drafted. Sanders did show why he was a 3rd rounder as the year went on but still.

To be honest I dont watch a lot of college football...just here and there. But I get into this stuff and researching and all that jazz...I'm by no means a "draftnik" (whatever the hell that is) or a "guru"...but i still enjoy it haha

This from Gil Brandt on Nfl.com

Swing and a miss:
Steelers drafting Marcus Gilbert. The Florida offensive tackle was all over the board –- one team even had him has a possible first-rounder. But most had him going as low as the fifth round. I had him in my 100-to-125 plateau, so No. 63 is a bit risky.

Based on how the draft has gone so far...

I would like to see these picks

4. Jaquizz Rogers, RB, Oregon State

5. Julius Thomas, TE, Portland State / Zach Hurd, OG, Connecticut

6. Mark Legree, FS, Appalachian State / Bruce Miller, OLB, Central Florida

7. Frank Kearse, NT, Alabama A&M

Well, I'm glad we got a CB, and a better one than I thought we'd get that low too. It's a bummer that we missed out on a guy who looked like a kick-ass nose tackle by one pick, though. Every year, we need to find a big fat guy to eventually take over for Hampton, and every year, we put it off one more season...

This from Gil Brandt on Nfl.com

I'm with Gil. I think #63 ia a bit high for Gilbert. He is more likely a bust than a boom pick. For a guy that is probably going to be a RT only , I would rather have gone with Joseph Barksdale. Neither was worth a 2nd round pick IMO>

Hope we can get Jerrell Powe in the 4th and replace Hoke.

lol I asked this earlier, and didn't get a response. I certainly think getting a PK is a viable option since I don't really trust Sushi for the long haul.

ESPNs best available PK:

KAI FORBATH
2007: 25 of 30 FGA, long of 54 yards; 30 of 30 PAT.
2008: 19 of 22 FGA, long of 53 yards; 21 of 22 PAT; 6 kickoffs 52.5-yard avg.
2009: 28 of 31 FGA, long of 53 yards; 24 of 25 PAT.

We still have two or three years with our NT's. They can platoon and keep it going. If both of them are out, we can move Smith there for a couple games. I'm not so worried about the DL anymore. CB is our biggest need and we need all the chances we can get of finding people who can play that position.

As far as O line is concerned. We actually have a glut of players for the line. Unless we're picking a OL in the first or maybe second round, I doubt anyone we have now would be beat out by anyone in the draft.

SteelerFanInStl

Don't know much about this guy. I think that I'd have rather seen an OL like Ziemba or Hurd. Not really thrilled about the analysis by nfl.com:

Carter is a college defensive end who could find a home as a backup 4-3 outside linebacker at the next level. Lacks the size and strength to keep his hand down full-time but also limited athletically. Has some redeeming qualities - shows awareness at DE that looks transferable to OLB and special teams, is accountable for his responsibilities within your defensive system, can fire off the ball and rush the passer, and does a good job tackling in tight areas. However, he isn't overly stout taking on blockers, struggles to shed, and does not project to hold up dropping into coverage. Probable rookie free agent.

Time will tell.

And at tackle, if we bring back Colon, we have him, Starks, and Flozell. There was a lot of talk about Colon moving inside on these boards, that may also be an option. The improvement I saw from the line last year was probably very much do to coaching. I'll give it another year or so before I start yelling for another OL.

What the plan is for OL is to be adequate, not great. That's a position we have to make some sacrifices at in order to keep a great defense and retain our offensive skill players; it's just how the salary cap works. This is not something that we just started doing, by the way. We started making that decision back with things like letting Faneca go instead of breaking the bank for a $40M long-term contract. Or when Hartings retired, instead of going after an elite center right away, we tried to get by with guys like Mahan and Hartwig. Instead we used the money to do things like extend Kiesel and Taylor and Ben and Troy. You cannot be perfect at every position, and it's pretty obvious that OL is the one we've accepted we'll just be OK at for the greater good. Nothing to be upset about; it's worked so far.

As for NT, that's been a gnawing worry on my mind for a couple years now, and I really hope we don't put it off any longer.

For those of you complaining about not getting this guy or that guy in the 5th or 6th round...you are aware that more often than not, these guys end up being cut, right? So what, exactly, is the problem here?

well that's your mistake right there :)

I know but the NFL Network is getting just as bad. They blew right through the last two Steelers' picks.

smart pick for the Jets. I was hoping we could get him. He is the kind of guy that can help your team just because he is so damn smart.

That's because Rich Eisen wants to be Tom Brady's Tight End.

I want the guy who is the least likely to get cut.

scott just went off the board.

I think Frank Kearse will be the pick. Guy we've shown a lot of interest in.

The lack of interest in Hurd amazed me (not from the steelers but from every team!). Ian williams is also surprising

Batch is likely some competition for Dwyer I guess. Doubt he can play Moore's role

Why not? When they talked about him on the NFL Network, they said that he was good at catching the ball out of the backfield. It sounds like he'd be a good 3rd down back.

Did do 24 reps on the bench press and had a 39 inch vertical at his Pro Day.

One other tidbit, and this could be thought of as good or bad, was that he had a severe injury his freshman year. Torn Achilles and doctors said he'd never play again. Redshirted the next year and came back in 2008. So a severe injury but he did recover from it.

I don't know if this young man will make the team but after doing a quick search on him, he's definitely got his head on straight. Check this out:
