The reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year says he’s not sure how it will all end, but he knows this much — he’s not showing up to play at his current salary.

“I can’t play for $550,000,’’ Johnson said. “The money that I am playing for, I am getting paid less than the starting 11 (on offense) and I’m one of the lowest paid starting running backs in the league.’’

Johnson, who won NFL's Offensive Player of the Year honors last season after running for 2,006 yards and scoring 16 total TD's, is one of many NFL players seeking a new deal this offseason and he is one of the few who truly deserves a new deal.

$550,000 is simply not enough for a player of his caliber.

For once, I agree. Pay the man.

No question he deserves to be paid more.

Sure he deserves it, but could at least participate and make it seem like money isn't everything.

I agree, but sadly the majority of NFL players (and all pro athletes) think the opposite of you and I.

....Johnson is two years into the five-year, $12 million contract he signed as a rookie, a deal that included $7 million in guarantees. Last month, Titans General Manager Mike Reinfeldt told The Tennessean he expects Johnson to “honor his contract.”Maybe your agent should've negotiated a better rookie deal for you, then. I'm sick and tired of hearing and reading about millionaire athletes bitching about being underpaid with the economy being what it is.

but he can't even afford a posse with $550,000.

:chuckle:

and I agree with you FS. Didn't he have any incentives. That's on his agent.

I guess it's better that I'm not a rich team owner, I'd be broke if not signing players like this ruined the team. If the player has 2 or less years remaining, then I'd think about it, probably with only 1 remaining. I'd let him sit.

He probably does deserve more money but the thing is in my opinion when you sign a contract you should have to play it out. You know what you are going to get paid each year and it is written in black and white. So all of these players a bitching about there money they should have worked out a better contract then what they did. No pity here.
