YES! With a man on 3rd and 1st no outs D. McCutchen get's the job done and throws Johnson into a double play after striking out the last batter to get out of the jam!

Andy McCutchen wins it in the 12th on a Walk-off Homer. 3-2 Bucs win.

The Surprising Bucs are .500.

The latest they've been .500 since 2005. I remember that season all too well - they won just 37 games the rest of that season starting with a 3-game thumping at the hands of the Yankmees in old Yankmee Stadium. So it's great that they're .500 now, but talk to me after June 30. Some VERY tough competition coming up with the Mets, Astros (yeah they're in last place, but the Pirates have been terrible in Houston), Indians, Orioles, Red Sox and Blue Jays. I'd be ecstatic if they managed to win 7 of those 19 games and not completely go into the shitter like they did in 05.

I am surprised as well. Happy .... yes. I just don't post in this forum much because when you have been burned as much as we Buccos' fans have been over the years, it is hard not to be negative. And I hate being Debbie Downer.

20 years of losing will do that to a fan. I can't blame you. Keep the skepticism up, X-T. We're still only in June. It's a step, but we'll see if the Pirates are still relevant come July. The typical time of the year where fans start pining for the Steelers.

I understand your pain X-T and I don't expect you to change your feelings or thoughts on the future def. with the past and next few series against them, but the pitching just feels right so far this season which we could never say in any other series and I expect them to come through adversity and win a few of these series and stay close to .500!

Go Bucs!

Can we at least get the kid into the system before we start calling him Maholm Jr? They will work on whatever mechanical flaw he has and get him righted, because clearly this kid has all the tools to be a dominant pitcher.

Anyway, good come-from-behind win for the Bucs tonight.

Why so serious?? Geez... All of a sudden your a diehard Bucco's fan... ahah! :) When you start paying for tickets and merchandise then we'll talk.. jk You need to go to the O's series and celebrate the 1971 WS.. That's in 2 weeks...

If my mind sets me right I believe we haven't lost a series since the Brewers at their house. I might be off by a little.

Very true and I think your spot on. If the Bucs can consistantly take 2 out of 3 games like this they will be a better than .500 team!

Just because I don't pay for tickets and merchandise doesn't mean I don't care about the team. It just means I don't support ownership. And evidently there are more who feel the same way I do about the team given that they've drawn a total of 26,000 fans the last 2 nights.

Anyway, if I go to the O's series, it's likely going to be on someone else's dime. I am still extremely wary of giving Baghdad Bob any of my money even for one night.

Think of it like this when you decide to purchase tickets: Whether you buy them or not it's not going to make a difference to the team, ownership or income. One game won't mean anything for 1 extra ticket.

Buy the tix's on StubHub. They are cheaper then face value and your buying them from someone who already bought them. Your not giving your money to the owners but someone else.. :)

60 games in and sitting at .500, 5.5 games out of first. Starting rotation is looking better than it has in years with Correia and Morton leading the way...

Thats pretty exciting actually, I am optimistic about the future

OK, OK, you've convinced me! I'll look for tickets for the Orioles series, and maybe see about the Red Sox series. At least there would be one real contender on the field then, and besides, they can scout all of the players they will have in 4-5 years.

Your gonna pay out the ass for Red Sox tickets. The cheapest actual seats (not Standing Room Only) are around $17 for sky high grand stands. Them Boston fans sure are buying early.

I'd expect to pay a premium price for Red Sox tickets, that's why I'm looking into it. If not, I'll go to least one game against the Orioles. But of course, just when I think about buying a ticket, the Bucs lay an egg.

8-1 Mets in the 6th ouch Buccos!

Edman
06-10-2011, 08:51 PM
Mets lay a beating on the Bucs tonight 8-1. 0-2 since going .500 while scoring a single run.

I remember vividly when the Bucs went 30-30 in 2005 and fubar'd the season afterwards. Doesn't look good if you look at parallels so far. Like 2005, they get crushed by a New York team.

X-Terminator
06-10-2011, 09:00 PM
Looks like Morton had a rare rough outing tonight, and his ERA jumped more than half a run. Ouch.

I'm not going to say it's 2005 all over again, but it's eerily similar.

steelpride12
06-11-2011, 07:17 PM
3-1 Bucs lead into the 5th inning. McDonald having a few control issues, which is his only true problem walking 3 batters so far. Cutch getting the job done with a man on first and second hitting an opposite side double. Go Bucs!

BPS3akaWirels3
06-11-2011, 09:12 PM

steelpride12
06-12-2011, 09:37 AM
Yes last night was a pretty damn good game! Mcdonald didn't have his best game, but got the win and Veras got two huge outs. Hanrahan showed off his fast balls to end the game, it was great and time for a win today!

steelpride12
06-12-2011, 10:33 AM
Sucks we are out both our starting catchers. Doumit is always injured so nothing new their, but Snyder as well. Both are excellent catchers and both have the offense sheeesh I hope one of them won't take long to recover. Correia on the mound today, would be great to see him get his 9th victory of the season today!

steelpride12
06-12-2011, 12:56 PM
Correia has been hot through 2 innings so far wow. 2K's and he is in the zone. All the Bucs have to do is throw in some offense which Cutch sure has done. He is on an 11 game hit streak, the longest by a Buccos so far this season!

steelpride12
06-12-2011, 01:47 PM
Correia hitless streak ends in the 5th inning with a single from Bay, but Correia get's his first hit of the season and it's a double, great game from him so far!

steelpride12
06-12-2011, 01:57 PM
Wish the Buccos could get some offense going. The biggest play was a double for Correia...come on boys!

steelpride12
06-12-2011, 02:16 PM
Man how lucky are the Buccos. After a Met finally scores, Angel Pagan forgets to touch second and it counts as a double play, end of inning, run doesn't count, YES!

steelpride12
06-12-2011, 02:19 PM
But they do put the run back on the board shit. It's like Mahalom is pitching today. Amazing pitching, but no offense for the Bucs!

Bucs have lost 3 of 4 since 30-30.

The gears are set in motion for another collapse to a promising season. They better get in gear or else they'll get broken up by the Trade Deadline.

They have Alvarez, Doumit, Snyder and Pearce all out of the lineup, and are playing with a bunch of minor leaguers right now and will be for the forseeable future. And now one of the AAA backups, Josh Harrison, is injured. So yeah, they probably will lose a few games due to lack of offense. I want to see what they do when most everyone is healthy. Correia pitched great until the 8th inning, but got zero run support. Tough to win when your team doesn't score any runs.

steelpride12
06-13-2011, 10:12 AM
Yes I do blame the injuries for the lack of offense. I just wish we could fit Jones in the line up on a daily basis. He is proven to be able to hit 15+ HR's a year and would instantly give the offense a spark!

I'm optimistic. I've suffered through seasons since I was a teenager, this is as excited as I've been in a looooong time. Many things can happen in the next 90+ games, but I still think we will end up having the best record we've had in a while. I will even go as far as to say we will finish above .500....the streak ends this year.

Not sure which games you guys are going to, but I got tickets for the June 21st game against the O's woo!

I will be there on the 21st as well. I'm actually looking forward to it, believe it or not.

Bucs lose it 5-1 today.

Lack of Offense bit them in this game.

Sadly, I think that is going to be their undoing. They have to score runs to compete with American League teams in American League parks. If they don't, they will lose every time. IMO this interleague stretch is going to make or break their season.

Bucs lose again by the exact same score. 5-1. The American League is a whole different beast, and the Bucs aren't doing a good job handling it.

Again, no offense is killing them.

steelpride12
06-19-2011, 11:45 AM
Buccos have 1 more chance at 1 to get at a W in this series and show up with some offense, the starting pitching is there, but run support is a must!

BPS3akaWirels3
06-19-2011, 06:00 PM
That was one nasty series. I so hope we do better at home... If we can't sweep the O's we are going to be way below .500 after the Red Sox's. This team has a lot to learn on offense.. Geez..

steelerdude15

It's like I said...if they can't score in American League parks, they will lose, period. This series was a prime example of that. Now that they're at home, let's see what they can do. But clearly the offense needs a MAJOR boost, and from what I've read, Huntington is looking to do just that.

steelpride12

It was too good to be true, and I got caught up in it. I said this stretch will make or break their season, and it's looking like it's going to break it. I don't see them turning things around any time soon. McCutchen is the only one bringing it every night, and that's not nearly good enough.

I agree to an extent. However, small market teams being able to compete has only been something of a recent phenomenon. The advent of the luxury tax and some revenue sharing has shifted the game slightly away from the big market clubs allowing for the smaller market teams to at least compete from time to time. Unfortunately, for most of that time the Pirate Owners have been more interested in putting any extra revenue into new ski lifts. It remains to be seen if things have changed

Edman
06-26-2011, 02:39 PM
The way we'll find out if things have changed is if the owners put more money into the team and bring someone in to help get this team to the next level. Clint Hurdle is doing all he can to get life out of these players. We'll see if they're really serious about contending.

Scenario: Bucs keep the 2011 Freak Show going are 3-6 games back in the Central at the Trade Deadline.

Do they do a fire sale at the trade deadline or actually bring some guys in? That's when we'll find out if they're serious.

The Bucs are still a game over .500 with all these injuries which can only be good news guys. Imagine how good they will be when they finally get healthy again, get the offense moving and pitching well. Im not worried.

Pirates spank the Nats 10-2 to split the series. With the Brewers and Cards both losing, the Pirates are just 1.5 games out of first place going into play tomorrow. Who da thunk it?

Wow the Buccos finally get over that skip of not being able to pass the 3 games over .500 mark and have a damn good chance of going 5 over and sweeping the Astros again! This just keeps getting better and better and through all this winning don't forget the amount of injuries!

Brewers blow a 6-1 lead and lose 8-6, so if the Reds beat the Cards, the Bucs will be just a half-game out of first.

Hurdle deserves manager of the year on merit for simply doing something that hasn't been done in years. He has resurrected Summer in Pittsburgh.

I'd like to thank Charlie Morton and his wife for putting this together. They are both very nice people and have adopted "Operation Troop Appreciation" to support, which is a fine organization.

After the game we got to meet some of the players and hit some balls. They then took us to the VIP Lounge where they provided free food and beer. It was awesome and the Pirates Organization went all out for us.

Here is a link to my pictures if anyone is interested. LINK (http://cakmakli.smugmug.com/Sports/2011-Pirates/i-cGKDTkd/2/L/IMAG0035-L.jpg)

I'd be a lot more excited, except the Reds are really blowing it big time. Down 8-1 to the Cards.

The Brewers are losing to the D-Backs though, so if things play out, the Bucs will take over 2nd place in the Central.

Got a long way to go before we should get too concerned about what other teams are doing. For now, it's just an added bonus to see the Cards or Brewers lose.

That's true. There were over 9,000 walk-up ticket sales last night that brought the attendance up to over 18,000 - not bad for a weeknight game against the worst team in the league. But I'll give them a pass for now since it's been so long since the Pirates had an exciting team to watch.

The only reason I do is that most of those fans, like me, supported the team but didn't support management. The young ones, however, are definitely bandwagon fans, not unlike the ones we see at Pens games.

How old is "young" because I'm 23 and I've supported the Pirates and all of Pittsburgh Sports since my Sister first took me to a Pirates game when I was 8. My parents never really cared about sports so that was the first time I experienced any kind of Pro Sports.

Even though I don't live in Pittsburgh, I'm still a diehard everything Pittsburgh sports guy. It's been like that way my entire life. I support them through thick and thin. I might be a little hard on the the players at times, but I still love them. I know records, past and current players, stadiums/arenas, scores, etc. I know stuff like that with other teams as well. Anyways, the Bucs are 1.5 games out of first. The Cards are leading the NL Central at 47-41, after them is the Brewers at 46-42, and we're 45-42. Just a quick update on the standings.

Well then you would be another exception. All you need to do is go to a Pens game to see exactly what we're talking about. Most of those young kids can't name 5 players outside of the stars, and half of them sit there and text during the game to see if they can get their stupid messages on the LED board. They are not real fans and will be gone the second the Pens have a down year or 2. Pirates...same thing, though like I said I will give them a break because they haven't had a winning season since I was in high school, and understandably the fans are excited about the way they've played so far.

Speaking of the Bucs, after they get through this stretch with the Cubs and Astros, the schedule gets really tough. They host the Cards and Reds, then go to Atlanta and Philadelphia. Ouch.

Raise the Jolly Rodger in Pittsburgh!! :jolly:

After a JMac 3-2 lead is diminished to a 4-3 Cubs lead it takes heroics in the bottom of the 8th with 2 outs as Harrison and most importantly his first of the big league McKenry hits a HR to make it a 7-4 lead!!!

Hanrahan(26 saves out of 26 attempts) does what he does best, fast balls right at the hitter, gets 3 outs and Buccos get the W in front of the most wild crowd so far!

BEST Buccos win this season!!

GO BUCS!!!!!

They need to win the division since Wild Card will be too tough to get, and every win helps!
