The Arizona Cardinals (http://www.nfl.com/teams/arizonacardinals/profile?team=ARI) are formally pursuing Pittsburgh Steelers (http://www.nfl.com/teams/pittsburghsteelers/profile?team=PIT) linebackers coach Keith Butler for their vacant defensive coordinator position, according to league sources.

Butler is the coach-in-waiting behind Dick LeBeau as Pittsburgh's defensive coordinator, but he is intrigued by the Cardinals' opening and Steelers officials expect him to take it...............

Whis and his Pittsburgh West. Next, he will change all the owners' last names to Rooney. He will find a QB in the draft named Ben and a safety named Troy. If Butler is hired, he will rename him Keith LeBeau and call him Papa and make him read Twas the night before Christmas every Christmas eve to Joey Porter, Clark Haggans, Sean Morey and Chukki Okobi.

What did you expect? Assistants on a coaching staff as successful as the Steelers' are obviously going to get interest from other teams, #1 being Arizona a.k.a Pittsburgh-wannabe.

I have a feeling Butler is going to stay put though. He knows he's the heir to Lebeau.

Best of luck to Butler if he goes - he'll need it. The Cards' D is atrocious.

And the Cards organization can go suck a fat one. I hope they continue to suck badly, primarily because of their crybaby asshat fans. Same goes for the Squawks.

I've always liked/respected coach W but their lack of creativity is starting to get frustrating. As far as the fans go, they fall into the same whiny category as the sea Squawk fans.

Damn not good. At least we have veteral linebackers like Farrior and Foote there for a few more years hold down the fort, but losing Butler would be awful for the long run.

I thought Wiz tried to snatch Butler when he first got the job in AZ and was turned down. Anyone recall?

Agreed. I can never fault a coach for leaving the Steelers for a 'better' position on another team though.

Didn't Butler just say last week that he wasn't interested in leaving the Steelers?

Until I hear it from his or the Rooneys' mouths, I'm going to remain skeptical.

Wis - do a little research and find your own damned coaches. Quit trying to steal ours. :upyours:

The Cardinals have more problems than Defense.

First and foremost, Whizzy. You need a Quarterback. Keith Butler ain't gonna find you one.

After a QB, they need a few more receiving threats. They lost Boldin to the Rats, Breaston is always hurt and Fitz can't carry the load by himself.

Butler has been a highly sought after coach the last few years. He deserves a chance to be a DC and I dont think its personal but how long can ya wait around for LeBeau to finally say he is done. Ill never be mad at anyone for trying to better themselves. Cant Whiz go find Tim Lewis somewhere and steal the 3-4 from his mind instead.

As long as the Cards waited to interview Butler I would be shocked if he didn't take the job. I'm sure the Cards didn't wait around that long if they didn't have assurances of Keith's mindset on taking the job.

See Ya Keith!! Can blame ya for going but I hope you didn't commit career suicide taking over that horrid bunch!!

seems only chance we got at keeping him if dick decides to hang it up (highly unlikely) or we offer him a boatload of money, like top assistant coach money and talk him into staying just one more year.

I want to believe Keith will be smarter than that

don't do it man! If you do leave Pittsburgh (hope you don't!) at least wait for a good opportunity, not any opportunity

Steelers staff have been the hiring pool for other teams for years. Nothing new. Just like they do with the players, fill the hole and move on.

Bidwill is a cheap SOB, so we don't have to worry about him getting big money from the Cards.

My thoughts exactly !! I have faith in the Rooney's and the FO. I definitely don't want to force D. LeBeau out.

I think the Steelers denied the request because it's Whiz in Arizona. He needs to open his mind to other coaches outside of the Pittsburgh Steelers organization.

I will never hold it against a coach who leaves the Steelers to better themselves with a promotion. However if we allow Whiz to interview Butler, that will open the door for him to try to take other excellent coaches from us in the future.

If he wants to build a Steelers West, that's fine by me. Just build it with coaches from other staffs.

I think we are all seeing why Mike Tomlin was chosen over Whisenhut. Whiz cannot think outside the scope of "What Would Bill Cowher Do?".

I may be missing something but where in that article does it say the Pittsburgh denied Arizona access to Buter for an interview ?

The original article is outdated. Here is a different article about that: http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/11039/1123946-66.stm?cmpid=steelers.xml#ixzz1DPSuk6Yw

This new link also states that LeBeau told the team he will be back in 2011.

Thanks tube, I got caught up. Something tells me that Butler didn't protest too much. He is probably excited about being the DC for the best damn D in the world within a year or two and in the meantime, studying under the master. As for AZ, take our defensive secondary coach....please. And ya know, I was feeling really really REALLY low after the loss sunday, until I saw this signature of one of the Cards fans....
