For Ben Roethlisberger, even a simple dinner draws scrutiny.
The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback defended his visit Tuesday night to a barbecue restaurant with several offensive linemen as nothing more than the continuation of a tradition started during trips to SBs XL and XLIII -- both victorious.

"It was superstition and tradition," Roethlisberger said during a media session at Texas Chiristian University. "Tuesday night I take my linemen out to dinner and we went to a great barbeque spot. We went there and wanted to listen to some live music, so we went to a piano bar. We just had an enjoyable night."

The night out drew notice when TMZ published a video clip (http://www.tmz.com/2011/02/03/ben-roethlisberger-drinking-boozing-super-bowl-piano-bar-texas-fort-worth-video-footage-green-bay-packers/) of Roethlisberger and others at a local piano bar.

Roethlisberger said that they made similar trips during the regular season, but at Super Bowl, he allows the linemen to choose the venue. In any event, the instances have raised questions about the Steelers' focus as they seek a record seventh Lombardi Trophy.

But from Pittsburgh's standpoint the question is: Who said that championship preparation has to include seclusion?

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said he wasn't concerned "one iota."..............

Yeah, not sure why this is attracting any negative media. It is actually quite tame. Just ask the 74 Steelers what they did out on the town in New Orleans before their Super Bowl!!

They are a team that has been there before and is enjoying the time.

Shocking that he would go out and drink...what's he thinking. A 28 year old taking his lineman out to dinner during Super Bowl week?

BTW-- why two threads on the same issue?

BTW-- why two threads on the same issue?

One is a news article and one is basically our opinions. When an article gets buried in another thread, it does not post on Twitter/Facebook. Each thread that posts automatically feeds to Twitter/Facebook. We agreed that when an article has some new quotes or has a slightly different perspective, it's ok to post them separately. Many of our new members are coming from the social networking sources.

The Pouncy story is an ongoing saga, so I've been updating the headline for a couple of days until we get final word. The Ben story was his reaction to the media scrutiny, so I felt it was worth a thread of it's own to update the feeds. Both stories will fade into oblivion in a matter of days anyway.

Just as it has been stated by many here over the last few days, Steeler's party adn Packer's sit in the hotel and read the bible. Or at least that is what the media would have you believe. I'm sure (since I have seen no stories) that no packers have visited any bars since winning the NFC Championship game.

We are more recognizable then the Packers players hence the reason with all the Steelers stories.
