James Harrison, Clay Matthews, Julius Peppers, Troy Polamalu and Cameron Wake are expected to be among the top vote-getters for AP Defensive Player of the Year honors when the winner is announced on Monday.

For the first time, the entire slate of Associated Press' end-of-season NFL awards -- MVP, Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year, Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year, Comeback Player of the Year, and Coach of the Year -- will be unveiled on NFL Network during Super Bowl week from North Texas.

The ballots for each AP award were handed in at the conclusion of the regular season before the start of the playoffs. Vote for which player you think should receive the award.

I really want Troy or Harrison to get it, but my gut tells me Matthews is gonna get selected.

Troy Polamalu. He is the more important to his team than any other player on the ballot (no offense to James). He changes game like the Ravens in week 13 and the Bengals a week later and when he is out Pittsburgh becomes an average team

Should be Harrison, if you ask me. I love Troy, and we all know the impact he has on our team. All the top contenders deserve to be considered, but seriously. The only thing that Matthews beat Harrison in was sacks, by 3.

Harrison has 6 FF to Matthews' 2.
Harrison has 2 INT's to Matthews' 1 (yes, I know Matthews got a TD on his).
Harrison has 5 Pdef to Matthews' 4.
Harrison has 100 tackles...yes...1-effing-hundred to Matthews' 60.

I'm sorry, but I don't see how 3 more sacks is better than 40 more tackles, 4 more forced fumbles, and 1 more interception and pass deflection. OH, that's right. Harrison is a bad guy and a dirty player who is out to hurt people.

I think Matthews is great, don't get me wrong, I just don't think he's been better than James...or Troy.

You know your defense kicks ass when you have multiple players from your D in contention for Defensive POY.

Troy and Harrison deserve it more than Matthews. With that said Matthews will get it, which is fine because he is a great player.

Deserved or not Clay Mathews will win it.
But that's fine by me, becauce you know damn well that Rodgers will pay for that slight this coming Sunday. :chuckle:

Call me crazy but I'd actually give it to Julius Peppers. Stats don't always equal value and he was a big part of turning a 6 win team into the #1 seat in the NFC. That being said I'd love nothing more than to see Harrison win it in a season they changed the enforcement of the rules to TRY and slow him down.

Troy can't win it with Harrison taking away some of his votes :chuckle:

Clay Matthews won it.

Don't get me wrong, he's one helluva player. But at this stage, he's not much more than a pass rusher.

James Harrison has an all around game. He can rush the passer (even though he gets held every single time), he's extremely stout against the run, and he is also good in pass protection.

Troy Polamalu is just a beast. Pass defense, rush the passer, stop the run. He changes games more than any defensive player in the NFL.

Matthews? Really?

James Harrison was more deserving than any of the other candidates. He was robbed.
