I'll ALWAYS show love for #7! :love2: He's the reason for our season (and I'm a poet and don't know it. :heh:). :tt02: I always believed the Mooner and the late McNair to be the toughest QB's I had ever seen but Ben tops 'em both as the toughest mofo to ever play behind center.

I'm damned glad he's ours!

The Tom Brady and Peyton Manning Quarterback Era Is Over -- NFL FanHouse

January 18 2011

By Clay Travis

Tom Brady and Peyton Manning will never win another Super Bowl.

What's more the 2010 season represented the passing of an era, the Brady/Manning epoch in NFL history is over. Sure, both men will continue to be among the top 10 quarterbacks in the league for the next three years. And both men may well tantalize us with the hope that they have one last run left in the tank, but they don't. The two men whose rivalry defined a decade in the NFL are on the downward slopes of their careers, a combined 0-5 (Brady's 0-3 and Manning's 0-2) in their last five playoff appearances.
The Other Side

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Manning was definitely human in Indianapolis' first-round playoff loss. So what else is new? He's been throwing crucial interceptions since the Colts were in Baltimore. Then those crazed Jets went to New England and got Brady's balding scalp. Suddenly, conventional knee-jerkdom is declaring a changing of the quarterback guard.

-- David Whitley on why Tom Brady and Peyton Manning aren't done yet
Father time is stalking both, by the time the season kicks off next season Brady will be 34, Manning will be 35. Mark Sanchez, the New York Jets quarterback who eliminated both Manning and Brady is just 24-years-old. That puts Sanchez in the same company as the three quarterbacks left in the playoffs, Jay Cutler and Aaron Rodgers are both 27 and two-time Super Bowl-winning Ben Roethlisberger is 28.

The 2010 season, therefore, represents a passing of the football torch, a demarcation point between what was and what will be. This year Peyton Manning lost his fastball and Tom Brady continued to lose his hair. Both men also lost the first playoff game their teams played in. Along the way both men gave up the Super Bowl ghost, losing their last, best chances to win another Super Bowl. It's all downhill from here.

Since the last time he hoisted the Lombardi Trophy six years ago in 2005, Tom Brady is 5-5 in his last 10 playoff games. The normally on-target Brady was uncharacteristically haphazard with his passes on Sunday, throwing behind, in front of, and over the head of open receivers. Manning fought to win a weak AFC South division and now, with age 35 nearing, Peyton faces a tough free-agent decision -- get paid what you're owed by the franchise in the final contract of your career or take much less money and hope you can find a way to be competitive.

Brady's in a bit better shape -- his Patriots have six picks in the first three rounds of the 2011 NFL Draft so they can hope for an immediate infusion of talent -- but Bill Belichick is ruthless. Might one of those high picks be spent on a young quarterback? Isn't it high time that the Patriots begin preparing for a post-Brady existence? Both quarterbacks' increasing age is further complicated by the looming uncertainty surrounding the potential lockout in 2011.

Getting back in football shape will be tough for everyone, but especially for older quarterbacks who rely upon the routine to carry them into the season. And what if there is, be still your NFL fan heart, no season in 2011? Then Brady and Manning would be 35 and 36 in 2012. Time is ticking, and make no mistake about it, time is not on Brady's and Manning's side.

Indeed, only one quarterback in the past 25 years has been older than Peyton Manning and Tom Brady will turn in 2011 and won a Super Bowl. That player? John Elway, who won back-to-back Super Bowls at the ages of 37 and 38. Everyone else has been much younger. In fact, the vast majority of Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks have been in their mid-to-late 20s.

Using Elway's career as a template, it's important to remember that in 1997 Elway suddenly gained a tremendous offensive weapon, running back Terrell Davis. In the Broncos' Super Bowl-winning seasons, Davis exploded to rush for 3,758 yards, was the MVP of the 2007 Super Bowl with 156 yards rushing, and garnered the 1998 league MVP.

By 1998, the year when Davis would rush for 2,008 yards, Elway won a Super Bowl despite having one of the lowest passing totals of his career. Effectively, Elway had learned to play second fiddle on his own team. If Brady and Manning find a way to win another Super Bowl it will be because they've given up the offensive load to someone else.

With Manning's contract situation in flux -- the more money he makes the more likely the Colts will continue to regress -- and with Tom Brady's continuing descent into male modeldom -- ever since he's married Gisele, Brady's interest in football has seemed suspect -- both of their best years are past. Colts and Patriots fans will rage against the dying of the football light, but they'll be wrong.

Don't get me wrong, Brady and Manning will both make the playoffs again multiple times. But each year they'll lose to younger quarterbacks before the Super Bowl. Because 2010 represented the end of an NFL era. Peyton Manning and Tom Brady are old news now, it's time to make way for the new.

Boy, has his face changed over the years (and for sad reasons). He was a young kid when he got drafted, played like a champion right off the bat, had some personal struggles and immaturity to work through and now he is matured, set his priorities anew. I so hope he is MVP in the SB and completes this season of redemption for the Steelers and for himself.

I love his answer when he was asked how many Super Bowls he wants to win. He responded, 1 more than anyone else. Go get 'em Ben.

They're watching. They're reading. And they're going to remember. Who am I talking about? I'm talking about you -- because you're watching. You're reading. And you're going to remember how the media treated Ben Roethlisberger in the 12 days between now and the Super Bowl.

The pressure is enormous, and I'm talking about the pressure on me and people like me -- people in the media, those who will frame the pregame discussion of this Super Bowl in general, and that Pittsburgh quarterback in particular
I know what you want. Lots of you, anyway. Lots of you want Roethlisberger to pay, in the currency of rehashed media outrage over the next 12 days, for crimes you don't know he committed. I can feel it. I feel it from sports readers, and I feel it from sports writers. Seeing how I'm a member of both camps, it feels very much like peer pressure.

And I hate peer pressure.

Don't ever tell me what to think.

And don't tell me to hate Ben Roethlisberger, because I can't. Not this Ben Roethlisberger. I like this one, and if you didn't know about his past, you'd like him too. He doesn't act like a superstar jock, cooler and more important than you. That used to be him, yes, but not anymore. I've spent several Sundays in the Steelers' locker room this season, but I can't give you a ton of anecdotal evidence of Roethlisberger's regular-guy vibe. By definition a regular guy is unremarkable, and that's how he now acts. Unremarkably......

Ben,

You've truly earned this one. You proved to everyone you can grow up, own up to your mistakes and move on. You truly became a man this year...and I for one am proud of you.

There were lots of people in this forum ready to ship him out of town during the offseason. Not me. He is a Steeler and I hope that he retires a Steeler. There isn't another QB in the NFL that I'd take over Ben.

I never wanted him shipped out. I just wanted him to get his shit together so he could be under center and bring home more Lombardi's. He has and he will (knock on wood!).

And as you all know Im the president of the Big Ben fan club here!

I truly believe that Ben is Gods gift to steeler fans (except the whole motorcycle thing!)

A fair assessment of Ben (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/dan_shaughnessy/01/24/rothlisberger/index.html)

PITTSBURGH -- We know the celebrity quarterbacks. Tom Brady has won three Super Bowls, is married to a supermodel and gets to meet Popes and presidents. Peyton Manning cuts that meat, wins multiple MVPs and occasionally is mentioned as the greatest ever. Drew Brees was Sports Illustrated's Sportsman of the Year. Aaron Rodgers is Super Bowl-bound, the flavor of the month in January 2011. Michael Vick is infamous. Even Philip Rivers gets into the discussion.
And then there's Ben Roethlisberger, the double-wide quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Roethlisberger is going to his third Super Bowl. Not bad for a 28-year-old quarterback from Miami (Ohio). He is 10-2 in the playoffs. He is 6-foot-5, 240 pounds and can beat you in a lot of different ways.

Manning and Brady are ball passers... If you analyze it, Ben is a "Field General", footballs Alexander or Genghis Khan.

Ben's numbers from his last two regular seasons (27 games):

577-895 for 7,528 yards, 64.4% completion percentage, 278.8 yards passing per game, 8.4 YPA, 43 TDs to 17 INTs, and a QB rating of 98.95(18-9,2-0 in playoffs and one super bowl apparence)....

Those are elite numbers

if you extrapolate those numbers over the course of 32 games (two full seasons), the totals are that more impressive.....over 8,900 yards and 50 TDs
