As we’ve seen in our comments over the past week and months (and years before SL came about), people love to questions Bruce Arians’ playcalling. There’s no doubt that he’s had some awful games (last year’s Browns loss, for example), but he’s also an offensive coordinator for a team going to its second Super Bowl in three years. And in Sunday’s game, some of the Steelers’ success can be credited to Arians’ playcalling and his play design.

That was never more evident than on Ben Roethlisberger’s second-quarter two-yard touchdown run. On that play, Arians’ scheme was good enough to actually make the Jets block their own player.

The Steelers lined up in a run-heavy formation (three tight ends, one running back and one wide receiver). With two tight ends to the left, the formation indicated a likely run to the left. Before the snap, wideout Mike Wallace went in motion from right to left across the formation, adding to the indications that it would be a run to the left............

Arians has had his moments these last 3 years, but down the stretch and now into the playoffs, he is certainly rising up my ladder of respect. Keep it going Bruce, we need a big game in Dallas. Prepare to score 45 points, just to be safe.

I've always felt BA has been a fairly good OC and have absolutely no problem with the man. I'm in the minority a lot of the time but I don't give a rat's ass - my opinion really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. Tomlin and Art II's do and as long as they're happy, I'm happy.

I loved that play! :applaudit: Isn't this the trick play that one of those sports media dimwits recently referenced before the Jets game? :noidea:

I hate to toot my horn, but I have to. I pointed it out as soon as it happened. It's on the game thread. Buried, I'm sure, but dog gone it, it's on there!

I thought he called a good game all the way through.

So Revis blocked Thomas, just like we drew it up?? I wonder how many times Revis had to run that in practice to make sure he got his block correct?

to me, his best call ever was the 3rd and 6 against the jets. i was screaming for the pass and i just thought they would pussy out and settle to punt it back. i have a feeling we would have lost if he didn't call a passing play there.

A poster on the blog notes one of my big Arians play-calling gripes; empty backfield sets on 3rd and short. But, he's back in the SB so I should STFU.
