While the Jets have pretty much held back with the trash talking this week in their matchup with the Steelers in Pittsburgh, it seems that the line is finally starting to be crossed. Even a little bit.

Two Jets safeties on Friday spoke out about the physical nature of the hitting that Steelers WR Hines Ward does on Sunday’s out on the field. Both had some choice words for Ward if he feels he’s going to get a shot in on one of the Jets Sunday.

“We’re going to deal with him early so he knows what type of game it’s going to be, and that none of that stuff is being tolerated,” Jets safety James Ihedigbo said............

Ummm, let me get this straight----they are going to 'hit' Ward early so he knows what type of game it's going to be and that that stuff won't be tolerated ? Ummm. I guess you have to have no IQ to understand that statement....or from New York.

It's pretty pathetic when the other teams CBs are not as physical as one of our WR. I know no matter what, when Hines gets back up he will be smiling. The last guy Hines got a good shot at wasn't smiling, talking, or eating very well.

Good luck loud mouths.

I believe Ward is going to play as if he had exactly two games left in his career. Now do you think he is afraid of DBs who wear green? There is a better chance he goes after them like a pitbull bent on stealling a poodle's bone.

LOL I hardly think the Jets' achilles heel has room to trash talk.Ben is going to shred the middle of the field all night

^ What he said. Especially since they're too chicken-shit to actually go after Ben. He's going to torch them. Probably run some rushes with Hines lead blocking just to teach these fools some manners.

While I know that Hines is grinning from ear to ear when he reads this stuff, but where is Goodell today when this stuff is going on. Isn't this exactly what he talked about last week, that he doesn't want players threatening each other?

If I finish what I said and then do what I planned on doing, I’m going to get fined,” Smith said, who knows a thing or two (or 50,000 things or two (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vz9eZM_FcoQ)) about being fined.

The Jets corner allowed that Ward's hits "can be" dirty. When such hits occur, Cromartie suggests that players "grab [him] by the throat and choke [him]."

Friday evening on SNY's "Loud Mouths," Cromartie said Ward is not "man enough" to hit players while they are looking.

Steelers Spotlight: WR Hines Ward
Last week, Jets CB Antonio Cromartie expressed his feelings for Patriots QB Tom Brady with a few profane words. Brady didn't do much when the game was still competitive.

Cromartie seems to be taking the same approach this week, now directing his angst at Ward.

In a radio interview, Cromartie said Ward takes shots at people when they aren't looking. (http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/41203118/ns/sports-nfl/) That seems to play in the Steelers favor, because if Ward is blocking, he doesn't have the ball. If Cromartie is watching Ward, he's not actively pursuing the ball carrier.
Not that he supports the run very well anyway.

In a transparent effort to rile up their opponents, the Jets defensive coordinator decided to act as if he matters, (http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/jets/post/_/id/4342/jets-d-rips-hines-ward) and threw a shot at Ward as well.

It's another example of the value Ward provides without the ball. Cromartie called him out for something that ultimately affects his team, and he's going to ensure a replication of Ward's battles with Ravens FS Ed Reed (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/1423/ed-reed) last week. Granted, Ward was given a 15 yard penalty for being taken to the ground, but he's going to be gunning for Cromartie now, and until he gets that chance, he's going to be gunning for Revis.

Does anyone have confidence that an offensive player will get a flag over a defensive player?

It's not wise to taunt the one guy who's going to call you out on the field. But Cromartie obviously can't leave well enough alone, so he's forced Ward into a larger position of prominence in this game. The team's most productive receiver is Mike Wallace (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/71118/mike-wallace). The guy who's improved the most is Manny Sanders.

Ward is still the glue that keeps the offense together. Whether it's a big third down reception, or a tough, physically earned touchdown reception in the red zone, or just being the guy who takes the initiative to fire the team up with a post-whistle skirmish, Ward is the heart and soul of an offense that will be physical if they're inspired to do so.

It will start early, expect Ward to block his assignment intensely on the first run, followed by some grappling, some jawing and shoving. After that, watch him do it again.

Then watch the Steelers offense start to ram the ball down the Jets' throat.

All he needs is a reason, so don't be surprised if Steelers fans are thanking Cromartie for his stupidity after the game.

Well, Hines has them thinking about it already. That is phase 1. Phase 2 comes when they actually are looking for Hines to lay them out instead of doing their job. Hines is a throwback player. I love this.
