View Full Version : NY JETS Fan Checking In

... hey gang ... big J-E-T-S fan here ...

... look forward to checking in with you guys throughout the week and hearing a steelers perspective on what we think we'll see next sunday ...

... just an fyi from what i've been hearing regarding the jets this season ...

... rex has the guys believing they are destined for the big dance ... he has hit them with that message since preseason & hbo's hard knocks ...

... most of us fans believe we are a very talented team .. that has played hot and cold throughout the season ... but luckily seem to be clicking pretty well at this point ...

... most of us also have a healthy respect for the steelers ... how you guys were able to start out the first month without your field general 3-1 and almost 4-0 ...

... your coach is one of the best in the league as well as your front office ...

... and we appreciate how much more difficult this game will be with troy p. & heath miller in the lineup for you ...

... and of course your homefield advantage will be tough ...

... we expect a battle ...

... mark and the gang will have to perform similarly to how they played against the pats to take it from you guys ...

... i personaly am most worried about an emotional letdown after killing our personal demon of the last decade ...

... our D seems to be clicking pretty well the last couple weeks as does yours ...

... i expect us to be able to run a bit more successfully than most teams have against you guys ... but don't expect to see anything crazy ... we know every yard will be hard fought ... as strong as your D is ...

... hopefully rex will be able to get a couple more defensive scheme's drawn up and attack your OL to pressure big ben ... they need to make a point to come in under control if they beat your lineman as ben has proven time & again how successful he is at shaking off the first rusher ...

... also FYI - most of the local as well as national media have given the jets little chance against both the colts & the pats ... some of them may change their tune this week ... but ... i don't expect to hear them come in one-sided for the jets and against the steelers ... you most likely will hear a mixture this week of who they expect to win ...

... we have several good jets chat sites and many of us would welcome some healthy talk from steeler fans there ... of course there will be a certain percentage of homers that have trouble with anyone saying something against their team ... however, i think you'll find most J-E-T-S fans welcome a healthy back and forth debate ...

www.jetsinsider.com (http://www.jetsinsider.com/) ... www.jetnation.com (http://www.jetnation.com/) ... www.theganggreen.com (http://www.theganggreen.com/) ...

... again, can't wait for the game on sunday ... and i look forward to checking in with all and getting a steeler fan view for what to expect! ...

thanks,

I don't really see the Jets beating the Steelers (if I was a homer or not) in a "playoff situation"... regular season, yea.
However good game vs the Pats... we kind of hoped you guys would have left them for us, but I think their loss to you was worse for them than a loss to the Steelers.
It will be a good game, but I don't think Sanchez is ready for this one. He "could be", but I doubt it. I remember saying "several" times while watching the game yesterday vs NE. I said," the Jets would be blowing these guys out if they had a better QB."
I may sign up on one of those Jets boards just to see whats up...

... hahahaha ... thanks for the welcome guys ...

... originally from north jersey ... top right corner ...

... good stuff about ready for dance every year ... that certainly stems from having strong ownership, a strong front office, and stability at HC ...

... in between the weeb ewbank and bill parcells years we unfortunately have had a revolving door of mostly bad, below average, or average HC's ...

... parcells did a good job of righting our ship before doing his typical run away after a couple years ... and his elevating mike tannenbaum to the head guy in the front office was a huge positive for us ...

... since then we had some more unrest at HC with al groh, herm edwards, & eric mangini ... luckily it seems to most of us J-E-T-S fans that we've got the right guy in there running the show now ... hopefully in the 2010 decade rex can have our program mirror how you guys run yours ...

... thanks for looking out WarDen ... Dino can give me a hard time though ... my skin is thick  ...

... i moved down to atlanta area about 10 years ago or so ... these guys down here are in grieving mode today ... it's certainly nice to be one of only 4 teams still having something to play for! ...

... SteelerEmpire - it most likely will come down to sanchez's performance on our side ... if he is able to play within himself as he did against the pats we have a good chance ... if he is off for the 1st half and tossing everything high as he did against the colts we're in trouble ...

Props for taking out the Pats. Something the Steelers seem to have trouble doing. I like the Steelers chances against the Jets this week. Throw out the last game. Your boys needed it worse than ours. Ben is a gamer and has the experience plus our D is nastier than the Colts or Pats. I do worry about our special teams. There were 4 teams I did not want to see win the Lombardi. Ravens, Pats, Colts and Eagles, and they are all gone. If The Black and Gold don't get it done, I can live with any of the remaining 3.

Hiya l_j_r and welcome to The Universe! :drink:

I have no doubt this weekend's game is going to be one helluva matchup and I feel strongly that if the Steelers play their game the entire 60 minutes, there isn't a team out there who is going to beat 'em. Just as T-Rex will have the Jets ready, Coach T will have our guys pumped and ready to kick ass. Guaranteed.

Here's to a great injury-free game on Sunday night! :drink:

P.S. Hope you don't mind but I can't stand your HC and will be taking a couple more shots at him throughout the week. :heh:

Welcome aboard, Lamont. We have a few fans on this forum who are fans of some of our most hated rivals, and we love having them here. No matter what happens Sunday, we'll always be glad to hear from you. Unless, of course, you turn out to be a douche... but you seem like a cool guy so far.

So on to your question.

Your offense has been pretty impressive. Our last game occurred after we had made some strategic changes and your production, while not stellar, was about the best out of anybody that faced us in that stretch. Your defense also seemed to be pretty good, so I think field production will keep the game tight overall.
The game will be about execution and turnovers IMO. If we come out and crap the bed early like we did against Baltimore, we're probably in for a long day. If we execute like we know how to do... no offense, but I honestly believe that there's no team in this league who can stop us.

So welcome to Blitzburgh. Buckle up your chin straps and get ready for a war. Good luck (but not too much, of course)! :drink:

I don't accept that, personally. No excuses for any reason, no matter who's out or why. We lost that game because we made some errors in execution and you guys played well enough to beat us. You won because you deserved to and we didn't, end of story. Hopefully the outcome will be different this time.

No crap, I used to live in Bergen county too. Montvale then Tenafly. Now I am currently living in Charlotte NC. Funny how we all move down south hah
.

If i had to chose a second favorite team it would be tje jets ironically. This is because my father is a Jets fan. But as soon as I heard the Jets are going to Heinz Feild the jets can take a back seat .

The one thing im really worried about is special teams . All aspects of it, our inexperience kicker and punter. our sloppy kickoff coverage. As well as the Jets great kick return ability.

Sanchez... i got to make sure he doesnt extends plays , which he does well, almost as well as ben :tongue1:

Dustin keller... timmons and polumalu have there work cut out for them.

Braylon edwards vs Ike Taylor... we can handle this match up

Santonio Holmes vs Mcfadden... might not be able to handle this one.

Running is going to meniscal for both teams...

... I feel like if comes down to sanchez vs big ben, we got the advantage.

again all my opinion

Welcome LJR.

Personally, I don't have any problems with the Jets (other than they beat us in the regular season). I like Rex Ryan, it's refreshing. He doesn't give a damn about what anyone thinks. He's going to say what's on his mind, and if it pisses you off, oh well. Revis, IMHO, is the best CB in the NFL. I honestly believe that if your Jets didn't trade up to get him, he'd have been a Steeler.

However, this week I hate the Jets. It's nothing personal. The Jets are just standing in my team's way of an eighth AFC Championship and a possible seventh Lombardi Trophy.

01-17-2011, 07:43 PM
One more thing about the jets...

Brad smith,

He scares me, he gets in the wild cat formation he usually runs. I think every time I have watched the jets he ran out of the formation even for a yard or no gain. Something tells me that those are decoys to some pass play .

this week however, I HATE THE JETS! I HATE THEIR GUTS!!! I hope we CRUSH THEIR DREAMS RIGHT BACK TO 1969!!!!!

but don't take it personal...I hate whoever we are playing. Last week I hated the Ravens, 2 weeks ago it was the Browns...I'm an Equal Opportunity Hater.

BUT I REALLY HATE THE STINKING DIRTY JETS!!!

The Jets is the only team worthy of any respect from that division. The Pats are choking cheaters. The Dolphins ownership is horrible and they will fight the Bills for last place again.

Ben is a gamer and has the experience plus our D is nastier than the Colts or Pats. I do worry about our special teams. There were 4 teams I did not want to see win the Lombardi. Ravens, Pats, Colts and Eagles, and they are all gone. If The Black and Gold don't get it done, I can live with any of the remaining 3.

... ok ... baby at daycare ... back to the easy life of work! ...

... let's see ... where was i ...

agree that ben is very tough ... also i am a huge proponent of the value of experience in the post season ... i think that played a role in the pats losing ... they had brady, bellichick and a couple others who'd been through the playoff wars over the years ... but especially on D ... they had a lot of new kids in there who hadn't won ... or even been in a playoff game ...

... regarding specials ...

... mike westhoff is THE MAN!!! ... he is one of, if not the, best special teams coaches in the league ... if any of you have time to waste i'd recommend going to www.newyorkjets.com (http://www.newyorkjets.com) and pull up a vid or two of his conferences (i believe they are archived there ... if not probably can google him) ... he has all his guys blocking and playing their parts well ... day in, day out ... getting him is one of the few things i've ever appreciated the dolphins for! ;)

... under his leadership we've had good kickoff returners for years ... chad morton ... leon washington ... brad smith ... and antonio cromartie now ...

... he recognizes who has the talent & puts them in good positions to make plays ... and has the blockers doing their job as well ... big attention to detail ... he has said next season will be his last ... and when it happens his retirement will, almost universally, sadden all jets fans ...

... while brad smith had been outstanding all year for us ... he tweaked his groin a couple weeks back and hasn't been able to go lately ... but with the other 10 guys doing their jobs have allowed cromartie to excel with his speed through the initial hole ... and we haven't lost much ...

... our punt return units, first with jim leonard ... then after his injury with jerrico cotchery are safe and steady ... a lot of fair catches ... or run straight ahead for 5 yard returns ... but they are solid with not making a mistake with the ball ...

... coverage teams (although they let edelman have the 1 long return late in the pats game ... as it looked like lowery thought he was going to let it bounce over his head & ran by him to the goal line) are for the most part very solid ... with the players maintaining their lanes ... and the gunners not giving up the corner ...

... weatherford has been solid punting for most the year ... although he had a pretty cr*ppy game against the pats ...

... nick folk was a big ? for us at placekicker to start the year out ... we let jay feely go (although he did miss in last years afc championship game) who was solid and steady for most of the season ... this was necessary to address our biggest weakness of lack of passrush ... we were limited in not being able to sign any free agents unless we lost someone first finishing last season as one of the final four teams ... thus we had to let feely go in order to sign jason taylor to be a pass rush specialist for us ...

... folk started out the season much more accurate than many of us were expecting with his history in washington and dallas ... but his shakiness in those places were attributed to a hip injury that he tried to come back too early from & this forcing him to change his rotation on his fg attempts ... he has gotten a bit more shaky at the end of the year and in the playoffs ... missing that chip shot in new england was very bad ... he certainly can not have anything similar happen against you guys in what i expect to be a hard fought battle with points coming at a premium ...

... regarding who i'm ok with winning the lombardi ... as long as the dirty cheating patriots are out ... i'm ok with everyone left too! :-)

... tube - hahahaahahaa ... the crumpler comment had me on the floor laughing ... i'm not sure faulk is even still on their roster ... but if so he's definitely collecting social security ;) ...

... slash - i agree wholeheartedly with your assessment ... as a jets fan, of course i feel there's no team who can stop the jets if we play at our best ... hopefully both teams play that way & we find out on sunday! ...

It will be a tough game for us, but of course I believe the Steelers will come out on top. ... appreciate the welcome Godfather, Devil Dance, Sal, & X-terminator ...

... TexSteel - i hope to check in here sometimes as well after this week ... enjoying the info and attitude here! ... after the jets drafted greene i tried to get as much info on him as possible ... seems like he had a great career at iowa ... i love what we've seen out of him so far since coming to the jets ... many of us fans believe when he got injured is what cost us last years championship game ... he was gashing san diego, cinci, & the colts ... nobody had an answer for him ... he got hurt & thomas jones was too beat up from the workmanlike season that we couldn't keep the chains moving & peyton on the sideline after that ...

... slash27 - appreciate your attitude about the last game ...

... ironsteel - i think i like your father! :) ... the jets specials k/o return has been very good this season ... whether it's smith or cro back there the jets need to hope to have some returns that position us with good field position ...

... regarding the wildcat ... we'll have to see first off if smith is able to go ... listening to an interview on sirius radio yesterday with cromartie, it sounded like brad could have tried to force it against the pats ... but the coaches held him out ... i expect him in this game ... not sure if it will be just to return kicks or in there as a wr/wildcat qb as well ... if he does go wildcat the jets have had him pass out of it 2 or 3 times over the years ... off the top of my head i don't particulary remember them being completed ... or if they were it may have gotten a 1st down ... but nothing monumental ... could just be poor memory though :) ...

... bignasty d - i'm a big fan of ryan as well ... he has brought to the jets franchise exactly what we needed - emotion, passion, excitement, relevance, swagger, and most importantly wins ...

... revis has been a Godsend ... he played incredible in his year under mangini ... then last year with rex sticking him out there man to man all the time with no help ... it was a thing of beauty to watch opposing teams challenge him & have him just suffocate #1 wr after #1 wr ... this year qb's know not to challenge him ... big ben would seem to me to be a little bit more of a gambler in challenging revis than most qb's out there ... please correct me if i'm wrong here ... as a jets fan i much prefer the odds of revis vs. wallace as opposed to cro vs. your #2 wr ... or nickel cb/ lb's vs. miller or 3 - 4 wr's ...

... dino - almost all of us jets fans liked and respected curtis ... he was THE workhorse that parcells brought in for our great run back in 1998 ... he unfortunately couldn't overcome a seasons work of abuse against denver in the championship game that year ... but he gave his heart and soul to our organization ... and he certainly is synonymous with the word "class" ...

... psycho ward - as to why lamont ... he was the fresh new draft pick back in the days i first started signing up on the jets message boards ... while all of us loved the lunchpail that curtis brought every day ... it was the battering ram attitude and take no prisoners force lamont burst onto the scene with that i loved ... he never quite fulfilled the earl campbell (my favorite non-jet ever) jr. performer i had hoped he would ... but he still had some shining, exciting runs in his time with the jets ... i have just kept the name since ...

Welcome to the board---can't really add anything that hasn't already been said at this point...

Except maybe this:

NOBODY will ever again give an Earl Campbell performance. The guy was just solid. Of course I hated him and the powder blue uniform he wore, and I rejoiced when Donnie Shell broke his rib when he tried to spin away from a tackle. Mean Joe Greene shut his ass down, too. I often wonder where he is these days----does he even know his own name? He used his head as a battering ram, and made many defensemen pay for attempting to tackle him. I wonder if the current commish. would have fined him for leading with the helmet against defenseless defenders.:frusty:

Earl Campbell is in a wheelchair because his knees and back are gone from the beating he took in the NFL. He is also a little woozy when you hear him speak. However, he says he would not have traded his position in life either. He was a superstar in college and the pros.

El Gonzo - funny comparison lamont to amos zereoue ... curtis was our version of bettis ... not in style of running ... but in terms of taking the team and putting it on his shoulders ... being the workhorse while he was there ... al toon ... what an incredible talent that guy was ... he would have had a much longer career if goodell's concusion safety rules were in place back in his years ... richard todd & kenny o ... some blasts from the past there :) ...

... alright boys ... greenbay & chicago starting ... game time is here !!!

hindes204 - your D is def tough as nails ... jets just have to hope troy is not quite 100% yet

Indo - thanks, i agree there only ever will be 1 earl campbell

ALLD - it is sad what condition earl is in nowadays ... but it makes me like the guy even more that he loves the game so much that it's worth it to him and he wouldn't trade it for anything!

Stlers4life & CPanther95 - thanks for the welcome

Troysbarber - lol

xknightx - i never in a million years imagined i'd go to a steelers board and meet someone who'd familiar with northvale :)

... i've had a great time checking in with you all this week ...

... i expect a tough battle out there tonight ... can't believe it's only 3 hours to go!!! ...

thanks,

It's good to have a Jets fan who wants to actually talk football. All the Jets fans on another forum that I frequent just want to call Ben names and talk about how great their team is.

... congrats guys ... you deserved the game ...

... mendenhall was a beast that first half ... him breaking all those tackles and having his way with our D was the deciding factor in the game ...

... good luck in the big one ...

LJR,

You are a class act. Thanks for your congratulations. The Jets showed some mettle with their effort in the second half, and their fans should be proud of that. Good luck next year.
