One of the NFL’s most physical rivalries might be reigned in Saturday by a strict officiating crew.

Jeff Triplette’s crew finished tied for the most personal fouls (seven) and unsportsmanlike conduct (five) penalties called. This group averaged the fourth-most penalty yards per game (114.9).

Triplette is most known for accidentally hitting Cleveland offensive tackle Orlando Brown in the eye with a penalty flag in 1999 and then getting pushed by Brown.

Fucking Goodell!

Call me paranoid if you like, but this doesn't seem to be a coincidence to me, I'm very fearfull that Goodell want's to do anything in his power to see to our playoff run being a short one.

Not to be confused with Phil Luckett who is just an incompetant boob.....BUT Triplett is the clown who blew his whistle when Peyton manning faked a spike and then threw for a TD, and therefore cost the Colts the score

Personal Foul 92 Defense. He was breathing on Flacco. Personal foul Offense 7 taunting the defense with his elusivness and not being afraid of Ray Lewis.

well, we were probably lucky that they let 'em play in the first two contests. It's a double-edged sword, though; poor Heath almost got his head taken off, and there was no flag.

I'd be lying if I said this isn't disheartening, though. Playoff football? If the refs cost us at key moments today, there will be stuff flying out of the stands at his head.

If Baltimore gets down in points, they WILL basically begin to "loose it" mentally, and then fall right into these guys hands...

Meh. The Ratbirds can't be too happy about getting this crew either.

I'd much rather have them this week than next.

It's garbage every week. Gotta play through it.

As predicted, the officials are horrible for both teams.

Steelers better wake up and play through it. The Rats are. It's not looking good so far.

i bet rats fans will be finding a way to blame the refs instead of themselves for that collapse

Shannon Sharpe (who not coincidentally picked the Ravens) said "not to take anything away from the Steelers, but that was a horribly officiated ballgame."

The only reason I have a problem with it is that those assclowns in the studio are supposed to be and are even paid to be impartial. They're clearly not. Don't we have to hear enough bullshit already about how we pay the refs off?

Both teams got hosed by the refs. We sacked up and overcame it because that's what WINNERS do. The Ratbirds whine because that's what LOSERS do.

They have to blame the refs. The other explanation of them just not being that great of a team, hurts too much. The Ravens were not impressive against KC, KC just looked horrible. I knew we had a good chance to come back, because we have a team.

Nevermind what I said about compiling the evidence. There are haters out there saying that PI call in the first quarter "clearly" should have been called on Wallace.

No point in even trying to have a discussion with people that dumb. Haters gonna hate...

Wasn't the Refs that stuffed your asses in the second half. 94 yards total offense by the end of the third quarter? If you think the refs are your problem, you will never be a winner.

ALLD
01-15-2011, 08:11 PM
3rd quarter Rats offense totalled -4 yards and 3 turnovers. Hard to win with those stats even with a 14 point lead.

Actually, when Sharpe said that, I thought he was referring to calls going both ways... to the AMOUNT of calls.

The game was called tightly. There were a few calls that make me shake my head... but both ways. All in all, it was an average reffed game.

Silverback
01-15-2011, 08:18 PM
Yeah, I swore at the officiating crew, here and there. But, honestly, they called it tightly, and I can't really argue with most of it.

well considering the garbage touchdown we gave up where people just stood around over a "dead" ball that wasn't dead...and the challenge we had to waste cause the refs missed the "elbow down" on the opening kickoff...anyone complaining about that nonsense.

Yeah and Woodley got mugged a couple times also. The play in the 1st quarter where Ike got called for holding Mason on the route looked like Wood got tackled from behind and no flag.
The play where Harrison injured himself diving after Flacco out of bounds was a textbook hold by Oher on Harrison. I have no idea how they miss that when Oher clearly had his left arm around his neck almost and right hand on his back. The hands were clearly "outside the frame" of the rusher(Harrison).

And there clearly should have been an offsetting penalty on Reed with the one on Hines. :coffee:

I'm sick and f*cking tired of listening to whiny douchebags cry about the refs. And I'm sick and f*cking tired of studio announcers who are PAID to be impartial and are clearly not giving them "ammo."

This ref crew should be disbanded and they should ask a few of them to retire. Who the hell other than Goodhell puts their most flag throwing crew on a playoff game. Fans don't like nor want all the interruption to the game. A lot of crews that go by the motto "let them play" would have only threw 4-5 flags instead of 12-13

I agree, 76. I cannot stand the CBS broadcasting crew (except of course, Cowher) but Sharpe is such a Steelers hater along with Boomer

I really didn't like the officiating in this game. Not because it was biased - which I don't believe it was - but because in the first half they really just slowed the game to a grind with a ton of flags that did no good for anybody. I do not like it when the officiating takes center stage for whatever reason.
