Steelers rule Smith out for today's game

The Steelers didn't wait for the results from Aaron Smith's latest MRI before ruling out the veteran defensive end for today's AFC divisional playoff game.

Smith had been holding out hope that he would play against the Ravens if the scan he had taken of his left arm Friday delivered favorable news.

The Steelers officially listed Smith as doubtful on the injury report they had to submit to the NFL yesterday. But coach Mike Tomlin told the team's website that Smith, who partially tore his triceps in late October, will not play against the Ravens.

"Hopefully we get the job done against the Ravens, and we can have that conversation (about Smith playing) again next week," Tomlin told steelers.com.

The good news for the Steelers is that strong safety Troy Polamalu (Achilles) and cornerback Bryant McFadden (abdomen) are each expected to play in the 4:30 p.m. game.

I'm actually glad to hear this. If Aaron isn't close to 100%, I'd prefer he watch from the sidelines and let Ziggy handle the Rats, as he's done a pretty good job.

Short, sweet and to the point as we have come to expect from Coach T. :heh:
