View Full Version : Is It LeBeau ? Or is it Troy ?

I know our Offense scratches and claws most every game... so I'll leave that gripe for another post. However, 1) when Troy is playing the Defense usually excels. When Troy is not there AND LeBeau IS there, the defense is average at best. 2) It seems every time Troy makes a big play, he took it upon HIMSELF to gamble as opposed to credit of a play call. And 3) When LeBeau made Woodley the roaming player for the earlier part of the year (and Troy was forced to follow play routes) we just stopped getting turnovers and there was a big difference in game changing plays. When Troy was put back as the roamer, he makes a big play each game and gets talk as defensive MVP. Maybe Troy P. is a better D Coordinator ? Should he be getting the credit and praise that LeBeau gets instead ? Just my thoughts...

Not sure what everyone is so heated about. Defense didn't play *that* bad today to warrant such criticism. Only allowed 13 points. I thought it was that opening kickoff that lost the game for us.

While we are definitely a better D with Troy on the field, I was very disappointed today in the lack of blitzing and pressuring Sanchez. We had him in the first half and pretty much let him bitch slap us in the second half which resulted in him being given a lot more time to make plays than he should have been given. My beef with Lebeau is that for whatever reason, he goes soft in the 2nd halves of games going back to last season. I just don't understand it.

But those 13 points came at crucial situations late in the game where momentum was at stake. Once the Jests tied up the game, the momentum was all theirs they never relinquished it.

It's Troy, people. Without him, shitty quarterbacks tear Lebeau' soft scheme apart. I think Lebeau's old age is getting to him. Otherwise he would've already seen that his soft defense in the second half simply doesn't work. Press the recievers and pressure the Quarterback. Nope. Drop 7-8 and play vanilla.

I can't blame the defense for this one. Like I said in another thread, I didn't go into this game expecting anything other than what we got. If anyone went into this game expecting anything other than that, you were setting yourself up for disappointment. The offense was going to have to step up and win this one, and I think they knew that with the way they played tonight, sans a couple of plays. But still, they were in position to win, and were it not for the special teams, they would have.

Each of the 3 teams has to show up with intensity to keep the flow going for the Steelers. The O feeds the D, the D feeds the STs and the STS should feed the O. We need to have complete games from each player, if not, we lose. Everyone gets "up" for the Steelers, that is why we need to be consistent, physical and intense each and every game, all game long. Don't understand why Lebeau plays soft in the second halfs and I don't understand why the STs look like they have been falling apart for a couple of weeks now. This facet of our team really let us down today.

I both agree and disagree on this one, X-T. I don't blame the defense for the loss, but our pass coverage is horrible. It's not great even when Troy is in there. I felt we blitzed quite a bit, so we have to give credit to the Jets for picking it up. But man, that pass defense. :doh2:

Jets OC called a good game today. Sorry, but they outplayed us. With the fake handoffs and fake shotgun, etc. They countered the Steelers perfectly and the KR was huge.

Woodley took the day off. Going up against a RT that hadnt played all season. First play free shot at Sanchez and he whiffs, then its all downhill from that point on. Amazing that Lebeau refuses to play his rookie Worilds who has had success with wide looping pressure instead of Woodleys single bullrush tactic.

i really think LeBeau gets very vanilla with troy out. i hope farrior talks him into releasing the hounds again, because ecen if tghe O sputters we seem to win if we are aggressive on D

No, We can't win without Aaron Smith. We lost because Aaron Smith did not take up 15blockers in the 3/4. Has nothing to do with Troy or LeBeau. Once we get Aaron Smith back we win out!!!

When LeBeau made Woodley the roaming player for the earlier part of the year

You lost all credibility as soon as you said this

Right, which is why no one should have expected anything different. I pretty much expected the Jets to be able to move the ball at will throwing against that secondary without Troy back there. The fact that they only allowed 13 points is a miracle if you ask me.

1 sack and 0 turnovers will not cut it for the steelers defense. They had no pressure on Dirty Sanchez and the run defense wasn't that great today either.

When Troy is out, I don't expect much at all from the defense. I think Troy is our defense, just like I think Ray Lewis is the Ravens defense.

When the defense has to plead with LeBeau to turn up the pressure against the Ravens, then there is a problem.

We better hope that Troy is able to come back.

Troy's injury history was the reason that I wanted to draft Earl Thomas in the first round. Not that I don't love Pouncey and feel that he was the right choice, but we do need to draft a quality safety eventually. Troy isn't going to last forever.

Lebeau has been in this league for longer than most of us have been alive so I'll excuse the 13 point "mauling" to a play off team. Troy is special and could make any D great but old Dick to me at least has been pretty special to. Steeler fans are like Buckeye fans, some of them year after year call for Tressels head for a 1 loss season but in reality he's owned the big 10.I think we are goinna miss Lebeau when he's gone.

after last season lebeau admitted to playing a passive defense because polamalu was out. lebeau needs to play an aggressive defense, not this pansy crop he keeps calling.

I think the defense played solid today. They have had some great games this season and some stinkers, but this was a solid effort. I also thought Mundy played well, he's no Troy but looks like a solid tackler and was in on many plays.

Woodley didn't show up much today, his big wiff could have set the tone, had he got home and blew up sanchez.
