‘FROM FINES TO FOUNDATION’ – PITTSBURGH STEELERS LB JAMES HARRISON ESTABLISHES THE “JAMES HARRISON FAMILY FOUNDATION”

JAMES HARRISON STARTS FOUNDATION TO HELP CHILDREN & FAMILIES IN NEED

For Immediate Release
December 10, 2010

Pittsburgh, PA – Pittsburgh Steelers LB James Harrison has established the “James Harrison Family Foundation” (JHFF), a non-profit organization that will help children and families in need. The foundation will assist children and families not only in emergency situations, but in ways that promote personal growth as well.

Harrison has been at the center of controversy this season, when, after he received a $75,000 fine in October, the NFL established a new fining and penalty system for certain defensive tackles. Throughout the season, Harrison has been fined a total of $125,000.

There was a massive outpouring of support for Harrison after he was fined, particularly from Steelers fans. Fans began sending money to offset the fines to him directly, as well as through vehicles such as the Facebook page: “Pay James Harrison’s Bogus Fine.” Harrison was so moved by these gestures that he was inspired to establish the James Harrison Family Foundation.

“People were sending money to me and I didn’t have a way to get it back to them,” said Harrison. “So I started the James Harrison Family Foundation, and I’m applying all of those fine donations directly to the foundation. For me, starting the foundation is two-fold. It helps me to help those less fortunate than myself, and, it allows me to give back to the community. It’s better to give than to receive, and I’m in a position where I can give a lot more than most people.”....................

Classy move James. You are definitely not the beast that the NFL would want to make you out to be. Now, only if Goodell could learn what a real tackle looks like.
