It's that time of year when a small list of teams are in line to clinch early playoff berths.

The Pittsburgh Steelers (9-3) are one of those teams after getting a huge victory last week over the Baltimore Ravens (8-4). The Steelers now have the inside track on winning the AFC North division and can secure a postseason spot as early as Sunday via several scenarios.

Here they are, according to the NFL:

1) Pittsburgh win + Jacksonville loss or tie + New England win or tie + Miami Dolphins loss or tie
2) Pittsburgh win + Indianapolis loss or tie + New England win or tie + Miami loss or tie
3) Pittsburgh win + Indianapolis loss or tie + New England win or tie + Oakland loss or tie + San Diego loss or tie
4) Pittsburgh win + Indianapolis loss or tie + Miami loss or tie + Oakland loss or tie
5) Pittsburgh tie + Miami loss or tie + Oakland loss or tie + San Diego loss or tie + Indianapolis loss

Got all that?

In every case, the Steelers have to win or at least tie against the Cincinnati Bengals (2-10). Otherwise, the other scenarios do not come into play.Share

It certainly would be nice to secure a playoff spot early, then to move forward and work on the 'BYE' so that our players (only the injured ones) can rest up before going in to the playoffs.

I'd rather delay clinching for a week than to root for any of the first three scenarios which have the Patriots winning.

We really need that 1st round bye guys. Flozell Adams and Smith will get that much more time to get healthy by that time. If we get a 1st round bye anyways.

All of them look good to me the main thing is to get into the playoffs and then take care of business.

if any of these scenarios involve brady tripping over his little white kitty and being out for the rest of the year, i will take that one.

I'm still waiting for the rule change stating that while hair is considered just part of the jersey and can be grabbed - hair plugs are considered part of the facemask.

Win this weekend, then worry about the rest.

That is all.

Well with an Indy win, I guess its now:

1) Pittsburgh win + Jacksonville loss or tie + New England win or tie + Miami Dolphins loss or tie

With a jags win, we can not clinch this week

Just keep winning. That ensures us a first-round bye. Simple.

The Steelers don't clinch this week.

Doesn't matter though. We're still in control of our destiny.
