"Toxic" is just the name that the guys on NFL.com came up with for a team's turnover differential and 20+ yard plays for and against a team. Supposedly in a multi-year research, these are some of the most significant and accurate barometers in measuring the efficiency of a football.

Hmm.

It seems this is actually a pretty dang good predictor- better than Running the ball/stopping the run, according to this article.

It makes sense as well. If you have a team that takes the ball away more than any other, loses the ball less than any other, has more big plays than any other, and has less big plays against them than any other... It is almost a gimme that they will win.

Makes you wonder- we were not a "big play" offense at all in the 90's. In the early 2000's, we started moving that way in 2003, but move back to the run in 2004, then balanced again in 2005. I wonder what our numbers look like in those two time periods. Because in the first, we were 0-6 in getting to and winning the SB. In the latter period, we are 2-3.
