The Steelers will sign a punter this week after Daniel Sepulveda was lost for the season while trying to make a tackle in a 13-10 win against the Ravens.

Sepulveda tore the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee when his cleat got caught in the turf at M&T Bank Stadium. It happened during Lardarius Webb’s 35-yard punt return early in the second quarter. Sepulveda stayed in the game to hold for field goal and extra point attempts by Shaun Suisham, but Suisham punted the rest of the way.

The injury to his plant leg is the same one that Sepulveda sustained during training camp in 2008.

And this is EXACTLY why I prefer our kickers and punters to concentrate on what they're being paid to do and forget about tackling on ST's. :doh: That's what the guys on ST's are being paid for. :doh:

It's really not that tough to hold if you got a decent set of hands. I've done it for my team on short notice (I play WR) and everything went fine. Ben could probably even do it.

The Steelers today signed former Penn State punter Jeremy Kapinos to take the place of injured Daniel Sepulveda according to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Kapinos averaged 43.8 yards for Green Bay last season, when he punted 66 times. He also punted one game for the Indianapolis Colts this season.

Good point - I don't know either. Holder is one of those (critical) things you just take for granted, I guess. If worst comes to worst, can Hines assume the holder duties? It seems to me he was mentioned as an emergency holder 2 years ago when Sep and Batch were both out. :noidea:

Just looked it up....Jeremy Kapinos was not the holder at the beginning of the season for the Packers but took over holding duties later in the year for Mason Crosby.

The guy can kick. That's for sure. It will be nice to have a fellow PSUer on the Steelers again. Even if he is gonna probably be a Steeler only through the end of the year(Unless he proves to be that much better the Sep)
