Andy Reid has seen his starting quarterback take a beating recently, and both he and Michael Vick made it clear Friday that they think some of the hits have crossed the line, even though they have not drawn a penalty flag. "It bothers me," Reid said when a reporter asked about some of the big shots Vick has absorbed. "He does run, but he's still the quarterback . . . you can't treat him like he's a running back there. That's not what the rules state."

Just makes me sick what this league is coming to. The GFL is inconsistent all around. Clark gets called for a helmet to helmet when he clearly was nowhere close to the receivers head (Oakland game). Harrison gets a flag for "full body weight" in the Oakland. The Bills try to maim Ben, and the linebacker on the play clearly had his full body weight on Ben and tried to screw Ben into the ground.

Inconsistencies will destroy this league very quickly. I don't think the officials are enjoying their jobs either, in this current state of affairs, because I am sure they are getting scrutinized as well.

He runs the ball, but because he's a QB you can't treat him like a RB when he's running the ball? Cheese and Rice, I've heard it all, now. :bs:

I don't think I'm really going to to be too upset over a lockout next season. At the rate this league is becoming the new "figure skating"... a lockout would be a blessing.

I'm glad to hear Vick and Reid speak out. The more QBs not named Manning or Brady who speak out on the inconsistency of the calls, the more light it sheds on the fact that there are different rules for different players.

Exactly. If he doesn't slide once he's past the LOS, he's fair game.

In that case, yeah, I agree. But Vick also mentioned hits he's taking while throwing.

"If you go back and watch the film, I’m getting hit after I throw the ball repeatedly, it’s time after time after time. I’m getting my face mask pulled, I’m getting hit in the head, the calls are not being made," Vick said in an appearance on 610 AM WIP.

"Every time I get hit I look up at the ref and I see no flag. And I see other quarterbacks standing in the pocket, the minute they get touched there’s a flag on the field," he said.

Vick said he should get the same protection as any other quarterback, but that he gets treated differently because he is so mobile.

I'm not a fan of Vick, but I AM a fan of the hypocrisy being exposed.

I think QB's crying about ['dirty'] hits is just going to bring more flags anytime a hit looks to be too hard.

Don't get me wrong, smokin ... I don't like the lame calls on the QB hits either. But if they ARE going to call them, they at least need to call them fairly.

I know what you're saying (and don't disagree). I just can't believe after all the crap this season coaches are asking for more ref interference. We really are getting to the point that penalties should be challengeable.

I don't think the players or coaches want more ref interference. I'm sure they want less interference. But they also want the calls to be made fairly. This is a huge problem Goodell has created, and I'm glad to see players bitching about it.

Of course, his name is not Brady or Manning. What else did you expect?

I agree about the inconsistencey with which the refs are throwing flags. If Tom and Peyton get the calls, all QB's should get the same calls. But, don't cry about your QB being smashed if he is running the ball. I really hate what has happened to this game.
