PITTSBURGH - The Steelers apparently figure that in this tough economy, if they can't stop opposing offenses with a nickel, a dime might spend a little better.
Primarily a team that has used a nickel defense over the past several seasons on obvious passing downs, the Steelers used plenty of dime defense in those situations in last Sunday's 19-16 overtime victory at Buffalo.

We played the dime because Buffalo basically abandoned the running game from the opening snap, couldn't run for shit anyway, and was usually in third-and-9. You'd be crazy not to play the dime in that situation. Baltimore will be a different story since they can run the ball too.
I'm still pissed that we didn't either go to the dime more often or a more aggressive blitz against the Patriots, since it was obvious they were running the dink-and-dunk from the outset. Instead we played that crappy nickel tweener defense that never works against that. Maybe next time we'll wise up and not stand around jo'ing.

Someone needs to talk to the pig-headed LeBeau. I love him and all, but he's been ticking me off plenty lately. Are we even going to make it to the playoffs on such inflexible game-planning?

We may make the playoffs, but we will not advance. We need to be less predictable and learn how to adapt to what opposing teams are trying to do.

So true.
