Perhaps you're not understanding the concept of "socialism".
See.. when you tax your citizens in order to give their money to someone else, that's what we refer to as "wealth redistribution". So all this really does is reinforce the point. 14 out of the 18 States that voted primarily Dem butt-raped their residents and gave their money to other States. This is a surprise to nobody.

That can technically be refered to as stealing

That chart is so misleading. All that means is that the blue states pay more in federal taxes than they take in, meaning that the residents aren't getting shit in return for all the money they send to Washington...while the red states are getting more bang for their buck by actually getting back a lot of the money they send to Washington. Living in one of those blue states, we now have a major transportation funding shortage thanks in large part to Uncle Sam. And guess what may end up happening as a result, unless Corbett resists the urge? The people are going to end up paying for it through higher taxes and fees. But of course, anything to make Republicans look bad, right Jon?

All I had to do is look and see California as one of the giving states to know this post was misleading. If that financial train wreck is what you want the red states to copy then I just don't know what to say.

What's even more intellectually dishonest about it is this is 2010 and the libs are still using 2005 as their talking point...I wonder why that is? Oh, maybe it's because there was a lot of one-time spending that year in the Gulf Coast states, which inflates their numbers.

Reason #2 it's intellectually dishonest: Spending is done by Congress. So the color code should match the congressional delegation, not how they voted in the Giant Douche-Turd Sandwich presidential election.

LLT, I'm shocked that New York's not in the top ten on the list of states with financial problems. Albany's a ginormous mess right now, and the rest of us in New York are paying for it in spades.

To only use 1 chart to draw any conclusions is intellectual suicide. There are so many other factors at play, besides voting patterns, to break down spending patterns. The first problem with this method is to prove cause and effect. There are so many of these "lies" floating around. For example, there used to be a cause and effect stated thusly: If an original NFL team wins the Super Bowl, the stock market will have a positive year.

Looking at a small sample database and trying to extrapolate it out to draw meaningful conclusions is poor statistical analysis.

I can't figure out why swing states, including my home state of Ohio, are listed as Republican. Since we have a Democrat governor and went with Obama, shouldn't we be blue? :noidea:

Why do I think this chart is constructed in a way to try to prove a certain point? :scratchchin:

Exactly! This is just a mere correlation with a "time slice" of information.

For instance, for my joint major senior thesis in college I chose the topic "Major Stock Market Trend Forecasting Using Artificial Intelligence."

I used 10 variables that were fairly positive (leading) correlational indicators of the major stock market trends. Then I increased (or decreased) the weight of each variable generating the aggregate "buy / sell" signal as each variable feel in and out of favor as a leading indicator. This was with over 20 years of time series data, NOT a time slice and I used financial variables that were considered causal factors.

Now the one variable I did NOT use was the length of womens skirts! It is well known that during bull markets the length of women's skirts is generally shorter. THAT is simply a CORRELATION AND NOT A CAUSAL FACTOR.

Though admittedly, I did ask my faculty advisor if I could do separate up-close study focusing on the length of women's mini skirts. :)

The chart was from 2005, and the red/blue was based solely on the 2004 Presidential election. Seems there would have been plenty of time to get current data but for some reason we didn't see it...hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Another flaw in the chart is it doesn't account for wide discrepancies in natural resource royalties. For example, Louisiana gets only a tiny fraction of offshore royalties and only a very small area off its coast. Texas gets a much bigger share and a much bigger area. And inland states get 100%. But that's technically not taxing and spending so it doesn't show up...the blue states are definitely benefiting from that 'socialism' because they don't have to pay the costs for energy production but they do get to enjoy the benefits.

Well, there is a causal factor--the better economic times cause hemlines to rise. It was stronger in the past, but women couldn't afford new stockings as often in lean times so they'd wear old, worn out stockings and long skirts to cover them.

Absolutely!.....but it is a reverse relationship and not a leading indicator....or perhaps they're so doggone happy their investments are appreciating they want to show a little more leg! lol.

I think the point is to call the red states hypocrites because they oppose big government but are getting transfers of wealth.

But that point fails because the Tea Partiers are more than willing to give up those transfers. That's why porkers are getting teabagged--look at Murkowski in Alaska (lost the primary, and her sore-loser bid was supported by establishment RINO types and liberals). The Mississippi Tea Party has formally put both our Senators on notice (Cochran is a notorious porker).

The neocons might like big government and free stuff, but the Tea Partiers are going after spenders even when their home states benefit.
