Too close for comfort? That would have been one of the great meltdowns in Steelers history had they blown a 20-point lead to Cincinnati in the fourth quarter. Bill Cowher’s record in his 15 seasons coaching the Steelers was like 111-1-1 when he held a lead of more than 10 points at anytime during a game. He lost once, tied once. A blown lead like they had Monday could have ruined their season.
But they did not blow it. They won. They won because Carson Palmer missed an open Terrell Owens in the end zone on third down from the 12. It looked like déjà vu there for awhile when Palmer threw the winning touchdown at the end to bring his team from 11 points down in the fourth quarter.
A few players here or there, and everyone is ripping Bruce Arians for throwing passes when he should have been running the ball (Ben Roethlisberger’s interception) or Jeff Reed for missing the kick from 46 that would have iced it. Many of you likely will rip them anyway. That’s okay, go for it...................
