Reverse, because you missed Sanders lined up just in front of him.

When it's not a fair catch...

He jukes left... he jukes right... reverses back left... spins right... fakes back left... he bobs... he weaves...

All for a 3 yard gain.

but at least he holds on to the ball. :yay3: and is limited to short punts only.

I think you gave him credit for a yard and a half more than he really gained. :)

You may be right, but considering he just ran a total of 112 yards from sideline to sideline, it was hard to be exact.

I think it's time to change this thread a little... We all know that it's 1st and 10 at the Steelers 10 yard line with ARE... The kick is in the air and Sanders receives...

Here comes either a damn good return or a fumble - I can't watch. :chuckle:

Welcome to the board, by the way. :drink:

i'd rather we be starting at our own 10 yard line than to have the other team starting at our 10. Thats my take on it. Thats just me.

So in other words, anyone who can fair catch the ball is as good a returner as we care to have? lol

Well, I like that Sanders is being worked into the punt returning game, even if it's a gradual work in. Seems like Tomlin trusts ARE on the punts that probably aren't going to be returnable. And to be fair, the last couple of Punts that ARE fair caught, really weren't returnable.

I said thats "just me",and i didn't mince any words. Cut and dry.Better than to have the turn.......never mind.

Sanders makes us nervous now because of the slippery fingers. But, he can make it very exciting if he clears the first hurdle, catching the ball.

I want a guy who will at least try to run straight ahead and pick up a few yards, even if it's 5-10 yards. It's better than constantly fair-catching the ball deep in their territory and putting the offense at a disadvantage. The only time he should be fair-catching is if he knows for sure there's no chance for a return, and there have been far too many times he's signaled fair-catch and he had room to run.

I think of a guy I can trust. He's going to field it cleanly and make smart decisions. He'll gladly be known as the guy who "Fair catches it at the 10" than the guy "Who tried to return a punt near our own end zone when we're bringing a heavy rush and only left our two jammers running back on the kick while the coverage unit ran free towards him so he can get lit up and possible fumble like when Sly lit up Moore who didn't call for the fair catch".

The former is a better label and also a much shorter one. Much easier for people to say.

Usually I have my eyes closed and repeating to myself quietly, " please GOD let him catch the ball....please, please, please, etc. " and then it goes to, " please GOD don't let him fumble...please, please, please, etc." Then I usually pour me a shot or two to calm nerves.

First thing that goes through my mind is catch the ball and don't fumble. I get butterflies when I watch us on punts.
