49ers claim Thaddeus Gibson off waivers

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on November 1, 2010 6:27 PM ET
The 49ers claimed outside linebacker Thaddeus Gibson on Monday off waivers, according to a league source.

Gibson was a fourth-round pick of Pittsburgh before the Steelers waived him. The Eagles also put in a claim for Gibson, but the 49ers had a higher priority.

Didn't think people would be so down about losing Thaddeus Gibson.. lol. He didn't do ANYTHING. If the coaching staff thought that Hills and Battle were more valuable than him, then there's a high, high probability that it was the right decision.

Eagles also had claim in for Gibson, but 49ers where ahead in line.

Its really not a loss . Crezdon Butler , Sylvester , Dwyer and Brown were all picked after him and still on the 53.

Makes you wonder if Brown, would have cleared waivers. WRs are a diem a dozen, quality 3-4 LB prospects are usually top draft picks. I would think you might want to look at league needs and situation when trying to sneak a player on the PSquad, not just your internal situation. I don't question the front office often, but wasn't WR our deepest position?

I hate to see him go but I think we have really good linebackers and he would have not got to play much anyway.

This sucks, they should have released someone else. Maybe Battle or Madison...oh well to late to complain now.

He was let go because of our depth at the position...not because of his lack of talent.

He looked VERY good in pre-season...good enough to make the 53 man roster. Hills saving grace is that OT is a very thin position on this team...but I dont think you can find two people who think that Hills is a better player than Gibson.

I don't think you can focus too much on what other teams are going to do when you're trying to help your own ballclub fight through injuries. You always have to figure someone out there will take a look at whoever gets released.
