Good morning,
The Steelers were out-Steelered by the New Orleans defense on Sunday night. Greg Williams pulled a Dick LeBeau, confusing an offense, limiting the big plays and stopping the ground game.

The Saints wear the black and gold too and they looked every bit as good on defense Sunday night, even though they were missing their starting two cornerbacks to injury and then rookie corner Patrick Robinson left for awhile with an injury.

The Steelers were unable to take advantage of the Saints’ corners. New Orleans deployed a defense that had the Steelers confounded for much of the game and, coupled with the crowd noise, helped thwart any kind of consistency the Steelers hoped to get on offense.

They overloaded to one side on that goalline stand and spilled Isaac Redman for a loss that got things going on the wrong foot. Trai Essex, who returned to start at right guard even though Bruce Arians declared that Doug Legursky would be there for a “long time,’’ said he blew his assignment on that first down. Guard Chris Kemoeatu also misjudged a “game” by the Saints, failed to pick up his man and Ben Roethlisberger paid for it with a sack................

.....................---- Mike Tomlin should have asked for a replay on Rashard Mendenhall’s carry from the two after Isaac Redman lost a yard from the one-inch line. Mendenhall hit the goalline. Tomlin said they weren’t getting good “looks” on the road. But we got good looks in the press box, got them quickly and it looked as though he were in. What are his coaches doing in the press box if we can see it on the national broadcast and they do not?

.....................--- That pass interference penalty against Hines Ward was a ghost. I saw many replays and still cannot see what he did. It cost the Steelers dearly because they were on the Saints’ 23 at the time. Pushed back to the 33, Jeff Reed tried a 51-yard field goal and pushed it to the right. Had it been from 41, it might have been 6-0 and who knows how that changes things............

Tomlin needs to fire whoever suggested to challenge that non-fumble.

Agreed. There was no reason to challenge that. Not even close.

The Ward interference call was payback for SB XL and last week. All Ward was doing was waving his arms because the defender was tying him up. Then the helmet-to-helmet hit on a defenseless receiver was not called. The Steelers' D is still a bit off from the Harrison fine. They are in the crosshairs and Goodell did his job by reducing the toughest defense down to average, so other teams could compete on a skewed field.

However, the Steelers just got outplayed and outcoached. That is why they lost, not because of questionable penalties or the new rules.

The first offensive play was a great call and then after that it was very predictable. Plenty of work to be done and expect changes on the OL and at the K next season. No way you can win a championship with a below average kicker, ask Scott Norwood.

And fire whoever didn't suggest to challenge that Mendy-looked-like-a-touchdown-to-me on the Saints goal-line stand.
