Season-ending injury feared for Steelers' Smith

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — It looks like Aaron Smith will have his season prematurely ended by an injury for the third time in the past four years.

The veteran defensive end left the Steelers' 23-22 win Sunday against the Miami Dolphins in the third quarter with what coach Mike Tomlin said appears to be a torn tricep in his left arm. If Smith, one of the main reasons why the Steelers entered the game with the NFL's top rushing defense, did tear his tricep, his season is over.

"Tricep (is something) you use every single play," Smith said. "It's like a cornerback with a hamstring."

Smith, who tore the rotator cuff in his right shoulder last October and missed the final 11 games, said he will get an MRI on his arm and "cross my fingers and hope."

Nick Eason or Ziggy Hood will replace Smith in the starting lineup if he is done for the season.
