Steelers linebacker James Harrison, left, works against Sylvester Stevenson during drills at the team's afternoon practice Thursday.

Not only does Steelers president Art Rooney disagree with the NFL's ruling on James Harrison's hit, but he also signaled a cautionary warning to the league that continuing to be so heavy-handed could have consequences.
Mr. Rooney, in an interview with the Post-Gazette Thursday, said the team would back Mr. Harrison in his appeal of a $75,000 fine the league issued to him Tuesday for what it claimed was an illegal high hit on Cleveland wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi.

When Mr. Rooney is against something, you know it's bad. Way to go, Mr. Rooney!

Finally, a voice of reason (and hopefully, warning) from an owner.

That's good to hear and what he says makes sense unlike what's coming out of Der Kommissar's office.

Nice to hear that he is not falling in line with the league and supposting James.
He makes allot of sense in his posts, and gopes back to taking teh objectivity out of the equation.

Kinda wish he would have done the same thing for Bens suspension, but thats another story....

I think that he wasn't too thrilled with Ben for putting himself in his situation. Yes, I know that Ben wasn't charged (and therefor shouldnt' have been suspended) but the Steeler/Rooney way is very particular.

Mr. Rooney is one of the most respected owners in team sports. He is 100% correct with his analysis of the situation and sees it getting out of control.

In the training video issued by Ray Anderson to teams on Wednesday there is a clause where even incidental head/neck contact can be penalized, fined and cause suspension. That is the slippery slope to where there will be poor tackling execution and the offense just exploiting middle pass routes for easy yards or free penalty yards.

It will be interesting to see how Rooney's stance effects the officiating in the next couple of weeks. Miami and New Orleans coming up. Could we be in for a lose or two?

Forget about beating the Patsies this year.

The officials have no dog in this fight.

But they are puppets of the Commish. We'll see if there is ever another holding call in favor of Harrison.
