PITTSBURGH — Unlike one of the NFL’s popular linebackers, LaMarr Woodley doesn’t think he’ll soon be playing in the National Flag Football League.
But in the aftermath of three hefty fines levied Tuesday for flagrant hits — James Harrison’s $75,000 the stiffest of the three — Woodley is puzzled by current state of affairs.
“It’s just hard to figure how you’re going to hit a guy,” said Woodley, who, along with Harrison, give the Steelers the best tandem of outside linebackers in the league...........

“You don’t ever want to see anyone get hurt and you don’t want to get hurt,” said quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who’s suffered knee injuries and concussions during his pro career. “But it is a contact sport … it’s not a game for wimps.”

Exactly and not a sport that should be ruled by a pantie waste

Ronnie Lott was one of the hardest hitters in the game, and he never hit with his head.

Just sayin'

No but he had devastating hits that would get him a fine and/or suspension in today's Good Deal lead league.

You've got to be kidding right?!?!?
Just look at 0:42...that would be a suspension if it happened next week..

In several of the other clips he leads with his arms, his head, and launches into the opponent. What he did was WAY worse than anything any Steeler has done this year.

:hmm: Never??? You watched every hit Lott ever made on opposing players he tackled?

Just sayin'.

More than most on this forum.

(Plus the helmets weren't padded so much back then. Hitting with your head usually knocked YOU out.)

lott led with his helmet many times. just as many other defenders in the league have since the NFL started. if hard hits bother you then perhaps watch bowling.

It's not about hard hits. It's about players leaving the game unable to remember if they tied their shoes or not.

SirHulka...you post something that is complete bull...you get called on it (with video evidence and all)...and you don't have the stones to admit it. Why not just admit that you were wrong?

This issue, along with Stink Schelreth's rant, is opening up a whole can of worms. Part of what he was pissed off about is the hypocrisy of the NFL. No, I'm not talking about the photo, although that is part of it. It is when they show fake concern for player safety, but when the player walks away from the game, the NFL doesn't give a shit about them. If Good Hell had real concern, he would have had a real agenda when he came into office. Not some knee jerk reaction a few years later.

It could also be the owners trying to confuse the players in order to gain more control over CBA negotiations.

What this could also evolve into is when you need a first down, just dump and quick one over the middle since any type of hard hit will at the minimum draw a flag. So your chances of gaining yardage or a first down greatly increase. It really tilts the advantage to the offense.

Both tackles, Lott leads with his head. First one, it is CLEARLY head to head. Second, it is head to chest.

Here he puts his shoulder into the head of the other player... this is EXACTLY the hit Harrison laid on Massouisousohsoihyous. Shoulder to head.

1:32- helment/shoulder to head. Watch the snap back of the head.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYFOXPUKBcA

1:30- head is CLEARY in contact with the other head AND, is the furthest forward of any of his body.

Funny thing is, EVERY highlight real I watched on Youtube had these hits. In other words, these aren't the "few among many". These are the many among many more.

Dude are you for real or a closet Niners fan.... Lott was a great football player but he flat out smashed faces during his career much of the time..... watch the hits dude ..... he is celebarted as one on the best of all time, and Harrioson is labelled as dirty... times have changed but the hits havent

 You're just repeating what one of the idiots said on TV (can't remember who said it). I lived in the SF Bay Area for quite a few years while Ronnie was playing for the Niners and Raiders and I can tell you that statement is total BS.

It's not about hard hits. It's about players leaving the game unable to remember if they tied their shoes or not.

harrison gave a hard and legal hit and was fined for it. if he hits him in the stomach and ruptures it does he get fined for that too? cribbs is fine with the hit. it's part of the game. now if harrison was deliberately trying to injure another player then that would be another story.

the NFL has a double-standard on big hits(and dirty hits too). they say no and fine you, then they turn around and produce a DVD of the big hits. shouldn't some of the money go to the player who was fined for the big hit? why glorify big hits if you are banning them.

the NFL needs to do a better job when reviewing these types of plays/incidents.
