Tomlin gives Steelers' Harrison day off after big fine
Wednesday, October 20, 2010

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin met with linebacker James Harrison today and decided to excuse him for the rest of the work day, a team spokesman said this morning.

Harrison said in some radio interviews that he would rather retire than be hamstrung by the kinds of rules that the NFL charged he violated with a hit Sunday on Cleveland Browns receiver Mohamed Massaquoi. The NFL fined Harrison $75,000 on Tuesday for that hit.

Haha that had me laughing!

I can just imagine Harrison completely cleaning someones clock this week with the most devestating hit ever and then retiring... Not that I want it to happen but it would be intense.

This no lie worries me about his future. I agree that he is just furious and his nerves will calm, but if he actually did retire I would probably have a panic attack!

There have been instances during the course of his three-plus seasons as the Steelers coach that Mike Tomlin has chosen to deal with something in a forthright manner in an effort to get some closure and return the focus to the matter at hand.

And so it was again on Wednesday at the UPMC Sports Performance Complex when Tomlin answered questions from the media about the James Harrisonhttp://www.steelers.com/assets/nflimg/icon-article-link.gif (http://www.steelers.com/team/roster/james-harrison/f955db12-de79-47a3-9c61-d50c2583d49b/) situation in order to get the focus back on the team’s upcoming trip to Miami to face the 3-2 Dolphins on Sunday.

“I am paid to deal with distractions. Distractions are a part of this game,” said Tomlin. “That’s what makes it a professional game, particularly when you’re good. We have a desire to be a good team, and so we understand the attention that comes with that. We don’t fight it. We embrace it.”............
