View Full Version : The Pittsburgh Power Thread

I thought since the AFL is making it's return to the 'Burgh, it would be a cool idea to start a thread for the Pittsburgh Power. The idea of this thread is just like the Pens Tidbits thread. Whenever there's an article or anything pertaining to the Power or you just want to talk about the team, we can post it here. Not only that, we can also use this for Game Day discussions when the season kicks off in the spring (again, just like the Pens Tidbits thread). So if you see anything that has to do with the Power, let's see it!

Word is that the Power will open the 2011 season at home against the Philadelphia Soul. The game will be televised on the NFL Network (which is where the AFL airs all it's games). As soon as I get definite confirmation, I will post it.

So both teams in the Consol Energy Center open their seasons against Philadelphia. That's awesome.

The NFL is unique. The popularity of the National Football League has been so consistent over the years that it dominates any would-be competitors. Many outdoor professional football leagueshave started in the U.S. and failed, including the well-financed USFL of the 1980s and the XFL of the early 2000s. One league that has bucked that trend is the Arena Football League (AFL), an indoor league founded in 1987. Despite a one year stoppage after the 2008 season to redesign the league’s economic model, the AFL was back running in 2010.

Irving Cambell, #6, is intruiging to me because I watched him play in person when he played for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers in the now defunct Arena Football League 2, the AFL minor league, a couple years ago. He's a good receiver and I hope he does well for the Power. Terrance Carter, #23, should be a very good player. He's an arena football vet.

Our starting QB, Morris, should be at least decent. Irving Cambell (#6) should be good as well as Terrance Carter (#23). As for anyone else, I'm not sure.

This is turning into a typical Pittsburgh-Philly game. Bernard Morris (The Power's quarterback) is looking pretty solid, he is 8/8 with 3 touchdowns, correct me if i'm wrong.

Not a very large crowd, there are plenty of empty seats.

EDIT: At least in the lower seats there are plenty of empty seats. Maybe they have more fans up top where we can't see.

The NFL Network broadcasts AFL games on Friday nights, different teams each week. If the game is not on the NFL Network, you can catch the game for free, live online at http://www.niftytv.com/afl . That site is completely legal and legit, I promise. lol. It's even promoted by the AFL itself.
