Defense didn’t have a huge challenge today but Watt and company did their job.

Hopefully DJ was humbled a bit and will no longer need Minkah to kick his ass when he mouths off.

But can’t even really call him a goat since that was really a TD. Sure it’s best not to let it come out after three steps and going to the ground, but had it been called correctly, or if Tomlin would have challenged, no one would have given it a second thought.

I like DJ more than most people around here and I don’t believe he’s really a diva. He doesn’t usually complain, and I believe helped Pickens when he was getting upset. Sure he makes some mistakes going backwards when trying to extend plays, but he’s the consistent route Kenny really needs on this offense. Also he made a really nice 3rd down catch on a low ball where he bent down, caught it in stride, and kept going.

If this offense is going to continue to be efficient I think DJ will be a big part of that.

According to Sterritore, once he had possession and the 3rd foot down, it is a dead ball and therefore a TD. Refs got it wrong and MT should have challenged.

They really need to have a booth guy that makes challenge decisions for MT.

Yeah, but most of the Steelers offense didn’t realize it was a live ball. Not just DJ.

He obviously should have been more aware, but he was already turned away when the Bengal picked it up and started running. I’m just saying I don’t think it was a self preservation thing or a bad attitude. He just didn’t realize what was happening, and wasn’t even looking when it became clear to everyone that the refs were allowing the play to continue.

I would however single out Muth as a hero , the guy caught everything in his zipcode thrown his way and exploited the middle of the field early forcing the Bengals to defend every blade of grass ( within 30 yards of the LOS) cause thats the limit of this offense to date with Canada it was like 12 yards tho so i'll take the improvement as something to build on

Entire offense. A lot of upheaval this week but they came in and more than doubled their production on the field. It was against a bad defense but they wouldn't have done that that well last week against this same defense. But we need to see continued improvement. I'll accept it is limited due to working within the larger Canada system still, but still need improvement.

Whoever finally pulled the trigger on Canada. I mean, when I get to the point that I think a coach needs to go, you know it's bad. :chuckle:

I’d like to add Najee to my balls list. I’m not a big fan of his but that may have been the most impressive 20-yard run I’ve seen in the past 10 years. It’s like he was reinvigorated by Canada’s firing.

For whatever reason Tomlin has always stubbornly refused to have such a guy. I’m not sure why. I think he once said that it’s a waste of resources, meaning a paycheck I guess. But I’m sure you could have a guy who’s already on the payroll do that job from the booth.

Hell, I’ll do it for free if they’ll fly me in on game days. I guess that’s not free if they pay for a hotel and flight. But I’ll do it for free whenever they come to LA.

Sure, but I honestly was of the thought that if you dont survive the process of going to the ground that its an incompletion and that is what the broadcast team was saying too.

The whole "he had 3 feet down with possession" comment from Gene Sterator that came several minutes later was something I have never heard of. Maybe Steeler coaches know if that and should, but couldnt see it. It wasnt until after the commercial break from the Warren fumble and DJ stroll that they started talking about it on the broadcast.

Re the AFC I don’t think it’s just the chiefs, the jags are for real this year as well, Ravens….who knows, LJ knows the knock on him, he could use that as motivation in the post season. Our regular season schedule seems doable but the playoffs..going to be tough to get one win

I understand what you mean but there obviously have to some rules defining what possession is, since it isn’t objectively obvious. For a while I think the catch rule was pretty bad, when you caught it, clearly possessed it for like three steps, and then the ground dislodged it and they’d rule it incomplete.

The catch rules now are probably about as reasonable as possible, but they still get the call on the field wrong occasionally, like with DJ in this game.

Ever since Bert Emmanuel's controversial catch 23 years ago in the NFC Championship game, the grapes at the NFL muddied the definition of a catch which had been the same for years. Even Dez Bryant's catch made it worse. Just a complete failure by the league with these rules.
