Hello everyone,
Here we go again with another porous passing game. Kenny definitely has to play better. He appears to have the yips on some of his throws with accuracy issues. I also don’t like the spin move he does to escape the pocket. He moves back way too deep out of the spin and it makes him blind to where the pressure is, running straight into sacks.
We are now seeing miscommunication with the Receivers. The blame can’t go totally on him though. The times that he is on target DJ is having several drops. The scheme is also not helping Kenny either. Last year, Kenny came in and played with fire and energy. I’m not seeing that now. I truly feel that the scheme has zapped his fire. When you are told that you are not allowed to use the entire field, it adds an extreme amount of pressure.
All throws go to the sideline. Either an out route, back shoulder fade or passes in the flat. That is all that is designed for him to throw. Not only that, every defense we play knows that is coming. Defenses are playing those routes, and they are hardly open. When you know these are the only concepts that you are getting as a QB, it can cause him to get antsy when he FINALLy sees it open and results in an inaccurate pass.
The pressure is to be extremely accurate against defenses that are covering the only 3 route concepts we run. It’s unfair to the QB to constantly have to make plays with concepts that every defense knows is coming. Tomlin and Canada are refusing to let him use the whole field, primarily the middle. There are no slants, seam routes, or crossers. That is unacceptable when you have players like Pickens, DJ, Friermuth and Austin.
Friermuth had 1 catch yesterday. Austin is never in the gameplan. When he is, he only gets go routes and Jet sweeps. It’s just awful having so many weapons but there are only 3 route concepts for all of them that go towards the sidelines. Kenny does have to be more consistent with making the throws that are there. I do believe though that he gets so excited that something FINALLY comes open, that he rushes the throw. He knows that he doesn’t have many chances to make a play with the same route concepts, so he rushes throws at times.
Tomlin says he doesn’t live in his fears, but he does if he doesn’t allow his QB to use the whole field. That would make ANY QB play tight. Give the kid the whole field like every other QB in the league is aloud to utilize. Let him get his blood pumping. It’s clear to see that the scheme they are running for him now has caused him to lose his fire.

If I was a WR in that system, I would issue a trade demand.

OL can stay. They are able to suck, but continue to hold a starting/roster spot.

It's getting to the point where I'm thinking his weekly practice reps have them convinced he can't do it with enough consistency. Most of the time they are running single read routes. Either they're open or it's panic time. I just don't think the coaches could be ignorant enough to continue to do this if the QB was capable of using the whole field. I know they went quick route strategy when Ben became a statue, but he was a statue. It also seems KP doesn't want to climb the pocket ,which is needed alot for longer routes. When he does have time to throw it seems he still doesn't go through progressions. I could be wrong about that as I don't know what the actual stats are.

We all know nothing is going to change until after this season is over. Until then, I am not going to give up on anyone, not even Canada (please don't throw tomatoes at me).
There are just so many things going on with this team that there is no clear cut solution. All of the pieces (or most of them) seem to be in place, just none of them seem to be working right. There is not going to be an easy solution like some think (replace such and such and then boom, miracle happens....). For a miracle to happen, there needs to be some sort of divine intervention. The universe does not operate on wishful thinking (I hope we hire/draft the right guy etc....).
Until changes are made, I am going to root for every single one of them until they are gone. Even after they are gone, I will still root for them because nobody, regardless of their performance, should be treated the ways some of these people have been (this isn't just about current players or coaches, but also past and future).
Some fans and their remarks are more disappointing than anything that has played out on the field the last few years. I do count myself among them as well.
You never know what the future holds, and as predictable and inept as Canada's offense is right now, all it takes is a 'Eureka' moment and things could significantly change for the better.
I will never kick someone when they are down (unless they are a total douchebag), but will instead offer my support to help lift them up.
I will always root for the underdog.
GO MATT CANADA!!!!!!!!!!!11
GO KENNY PICKETT!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111
GO MIKE TOMLIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111111111
If my blessing has any weight, and I would like to think that it might, may they each be showered with the kind of success that is difficult for some people to imagine.

You are correct in some of these things such as climbing the pocket. His progressions have been skittish as well, although I’m not sure if it is a lack of noone being open due to a bad scheme. You may be correct as well in him not hitting routes in the middle of the field at practice. However, keeping him from throwing to the middle of the field during games hinders his overall progress.
If you don’t allow him to throw them in games, will practice really help? Young QB’s will make mistakes. Peyton Manning threw a terrible amount of picks in his rookie year. You have to allow them to work through their mistakes. Instead you are taking your 1st Rd. QB and telling him we are giving you only half the field because we don’t believe in you. That can’t help his confidence.
All the other young QB’s are throwing it all over the yard. There are some mistakes being made, but that is the only way to help them develop. Condensing the playbook to help aid our defensive opponents is the worst course of action. The predictable play calling is not only hurting the offense, but the defense as well. It is no wonder we have so many injuries on defense. The less the offense possesses the ball, the more the defense is on the field. That makes them more susceptible to injury and the results are showing.

There is no reason to throw tomatoes my friend! Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I agree with you. I will continue to root for them. I do believe the pieces are there. The players need to play better. However, the coaches need to do the necessary things to help them succeed. I’m just not seeing that right now.

Losman is a good comparison, he was drafted around the same position (1st round, 22 overall), and their stats are on pace to be pretty similar

Didn't someone here recently make a post with a link to a story ranking teams by how much they throw to the middle of the field, and the Steelers were ranked 26th which meant 6 teams actually do it less than the Steelers, and one of them is the Eagles who have a pretty good offense? And Hurts doesn't seem to be mentally destroyed because they do that.
Having said that it makes sense to me to attack all parts of the field, but if the Eagles are really avoiding the middle more than the Steelers then I wonder what their thinking is.

I found that in either a piece on the Athletic or the Ringer that I’ve been unable to track down again.
The article indicated that defense is simply willing to let offense play along the sideline.
The Iggles may be content to let Brown just dominate outside and Smith take the top off. The raw numbers of those two indicates their getting explosive play outside so maybe no need to go into the middle.
The cool kid thing on defense ow is to do Fangio stuff. I THINK Fangio is a take the middle away guy. But someone smarter than me will need to weigh in.
But I will say that someone like Shawrtz is gonna just want to shut you down at all avenues. While Austin is much more from the school of you can gain all the yards you want but you can’t score points. Different ways to skin a cat.
