Takes on Homeowners Assoc.

Reporter: Crystal Gutierrez (crystal.gutierrez@krqe.com)
ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A flap over a flag is brewing in an Albuquerque neighborhood after the Ventana Ranch Homeowners' Association ordered a resident to take down his Pittsburgh Steelers flag.
Ronnie Martinez said he couldn’t believe it when he got a violation notice, or “friendly reminder,” in the mail two weeks ago.
“They're saying it’s a friendly reminder but,” Martinez said
That friendly reminder is ordering him to fold up a flag bearing the name of his favorite NFL team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, because signs are forbidden under Ventana Ranch HOA’s covenant

Watch the news video..

That's so awesome... I wonder if my homeowners associations would do the same? I have the SB 43 flag hanging out over my patio deck and a small one in beside the garage. You can take my wife and children but no Steelers flag over my dead body... :chuckle:

If that's the HOA bylaws, there's not much you can do.

Only thing they routinely over step is with antennas and satellite dishes. Federal law forbids them from banning any satellite dish under 1 meter, or any antenna - of any size - that is no taller than 12 ft. above the highest point of the home. But many ban them anyway - but it can't be enforced.

Like the guy said.. It says about signs and not flags... I tried to get DTV back a few months ago and said it couldn't be in front of the house so I am stuck with Comcrap..

You have Federal Law on your side. If you can't receive satellite signal on the rear of your home, you can place it where you need to in order to receive it. There's nothing the HOA can do about it. If they fight it, they are fighting the FCC and will be liable for their, and your, expenses.

I rent so I cant take the risk of them looking for something else to fight me on.. If I owned then I would fight it..

Rumspringa begins at 18, an age that the Amish believe marks the start of adulthood. The term "rumspringa" means running around. The young person can experience the outside world- move out, drive, drink, cut and dye their hair, get tattoos, go to concerts, cinemas and niteclubs, wear modern clothes and so on.

Eventually the young person, can decide to join the church and abstain from all the things they have experienced or remain in the outside world. The Amish believe that to remain unbaptised, means a person can go to hell so the family will always want their son/daughter to join the church and be baptised. Also, while that person is not shunned the family will not want them to visit in modern clothes with a car lest they be a bad influence to younger siblings.

Traditionally most women remain at home during rumspringa and will kept to their traditional clothes. That means they are more like to join the church and if an Amish guy wants marry a certain Amish women, he will most likely have to join her when she is baptised into the church.Otherwise, they cannot marry. This means many Amish men return to the church.

Rumspringa has been described as getting more difficult for teens today than in the past. Many Amish teens work in factories and restaurants, not farms and therefore have more money than previously and can buy more goods and/ move out.

There is a danger that if a person joins the church, but misses the outside world and releaves, they will be shunned. This is what makes it so hard for the Amish teens.

As it is, most teens return to the church.

There was a great story on this a year or two back that I believe was on Dateline.. I really respect the Amish for standing strong in their believes and respect towards us as outsides... I will always have a lending hand to them... Do you remember the schoolhouse massacre back in October 2006?

The Amish school shooting was a shooting at the West Nickel Mines School, an Amish (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amish) one-room schoolhouse (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One-room_school) in the Old Order Amish (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Order_Amish) community of Nickel Mines (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nickel_Mines), a village in Bart Township (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bart_Township,_Pennsylvania) of Lancaster County (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lancaster_County,_Pennsylvania), Pennsylvania (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pennsylvania), on October 2, 2006.[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amish_school_shooting#cite_note-sandiego-0)[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amish_school_shooting#cite_note-AP_100206-1)[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amish_school_shooting#cite_note-cbs-2)[4] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amish_school_shooting#cite_note-3)[5] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amish_school_shooting#cite_note-cnn-4) Gunman Charles Carl Roberts IV (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Carl_Roberts) took hostages (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hostage) and eventually shot ten girls (aged 6–13), killing five, before committing suicide (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suicide) in the schoolhouse.[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amish_school_shooting#cite_note-sandiego-0)[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amish_school_shooting#cite_note-AP_100206-1)[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amish_school_shooting#cite_note-cbs-2)[5] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amish_school_shooting#cite_note-cnn-4)[6] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amish_school_shooting#cite_note-cnn_100206-5)
The emphasis on forgiveness and reconciliation in the response of the Amish community was widely discussed in the national media. The West Nickel Mines School was torn down, and a new one-room schoolhouse, the New Hope School, was built at another location

HOAs are for Morons who are given power and abuse it. I'd tell them to go fly their flag straight up their collective asses.!!! Personally, I wouldn't live anywhere there is a HOA. For the record. Federal law prohibits regualting Solar or vany other energy saving device as well but they still try. MORONS!!!

Sometimes they go too far. There was a case in California where a neighbor was forced to cut down a massive tree in his own yard because it blocked the sun from the solar panels of his neighbor.

Doesn't consistently load from the clip. I now have 4 magazines and only one is fairly reliable. Rounds 2, 3 and 4 typically cycle through fine, but the first and last are hit or miss.

The safety lever is embarrassingly primitive and has virtually no indent for the lever to rest in its safe and off positions, so you end up passing the stops and putting a nice big arcing scratch down to the bare metal.

Sounds like your mags need some tweaking. That's standard for any manufacturer. I've had to break in the mags for every semiauto firearm I've ever owned.
