View Full Version : What Would Be Your Counter to This?

I noticed that the Rams played a lot of down lineman at various times yesterday. The Browns did this too - I think.
If teams are going to go with 5 DL and a ton of players in the box -- often at least one of the safeties --- what would be your counter?
I kind of feel like that pass combination to Pickens where he ran like the worlds slowest post route so he beat the corner but didn't run into the one deep safety could be something that pulls teams out of it. I dunno.
Question is would you try to find ways to run into it with success (something the fourth quarter Steelers did) or would you throw over it and force teams to switch it up. My instinct is to throw over it....but it is always gutting to just run over a team as well.

KP is gaining a lot of chemistry with GP on back shoulder throws and I expect the chemistry to grow with DJ on these types of throws as well. I also expect defenses to start picking up on our tendency to throw these types of passes against a stacked box, but as of right now...it's working pretty well.
You would think a screen pass would work, but we all know how well this team runs a screen. Crossers should work as well, but sometimes they take longer to develop, especially against a heavy blitz.
What would really make teams think twice about stacking the box is having a legitimate deep threat to take the top off and make them pay. I'm really hoping CA3 can be that guy in the back half of the season.

Haven't seen the jet sweep in a few weeks. I'm sure they're waiting to pull it out at the most opportune time...like 2 and 3 for a loss of 7...but maybe they finally scrapped it. After all, we don't have Gunner to run them any more.

Also wish there was more play action without Kenny rolling out. We just simply don't use the Tight End over the middle anymore. They need to go back and look where Heath made his living. I do believe those type of plays will be open a bunch. Of course, this talk goes back to an inept coordinator.

I think you mean slants. DJ, CA3, and GP are all quick enough to gain inside position on a slant for a quick throw and catch.

this, pickens especially is such a mismatch with most CB’s we should be taking advantage of this.
we also need a RB who can block, and a TE, getting rid of gentry and watt was dumb
