By most accounts across the Steelers internet, Jones played well at LT against the Ravens. Say that Moore is ready to play after the bye week. What do you do if you were in charge?

Me, I would just install Jones at LT. Then I would try Moore at RT and let Chuks be the top back-up. I wonder if Moore can adapt to RT and be a bit better of run blocker out there than Chuks has proven to be. But I have no idea if Moore can make the switch mid-season.

Would anyone prefer that Moore becomes the back-up and to leave Chuks at RT? Maybe changing two spots is not a great idea?

Moore himself claims to be more comfortable at RT (or so I read) Chuks is a flag magnet who has played both sides so I would be floating him as trade bait because he makes way to much money to ride the pine so to speak

Agree. He’s a nice swing tackle to have on the bench but the salary doesn’t coincide with that idea..regardless, he shouldn’t be playing…he’s been pretty terrible to the naked eye.

Think he is one of Tomlin's guys also. Which means he will be here and start until his contract is up. One of Tomlin's seriously annoying traits that he will not put the best man on the field most of the time.

Moore was taking some, not alot, of snaps.at RT during camp.

Chuks has a big contract.

I think that may be the plan. Don't think it will happen now but I hope Jones gets in there soon.

Any chance you can link that quote? I’m unable to find it.

I like Dan Moore at LT. I might end up liking Brod Jones at LT more, we’ll see. I just want one of these 2 guys to be awesome at LT and hold it down. I want the other to be the same at RT. Don’t much care who goes where.

Jones is the guy, he was good vs the Ravens, and they drafted him for a reason. I expect Moore to be the swing tackle. And he'll be focusing on shifting to the right side in the off-season.

The biggest question mark now is Mason Cole. He's been underwhelming so far this season after being solid last year despite the nagging ankle injury.

yeah well I looked too and was unable to find it , not sure where it was but I sure found a ton of stuff saying he wasnt comfortable but played well in limited reps at camp ...

so perhaps what I read was on twitter and someone else misinterpreted it ( missed the NOT) and regurgitated something or seen the play and said he looked comfortable and I misinterpreted ..either way I didn't find it

I have basically been saying that Moore should be tried at RT the second they drafted Jones. Chuks is making a lot of money to play like shit and not be physical. Moore would probably have a chance to at least play at a level that is as good as Chuks or better for a fraction of the cost.

I still am not sure why this wasn't what happened. Take the off-season and camp to get it all sorted out. But for "Steelers Reasons" it didn't.

Looks like they could cut Chuks after this season and save $8 million with less than $4 million dead cap.

I know it would be risky....but what if they try and trade Chuks before the deadline? I am not saying he is all that or anything....but OT is always in short supply. Unfortunately, this is likely too much of a Madden Franchise mode idea and not a realistic real-world option.

Even if a change was made and Jones and Moore become the new bookend OTs, I agree trading away Chuks is not a good idea. The other OT is Dylan Cook, a rookie with zero NFL snaps. Chuks can play backup to both OT and OG spots if needed. He may not be a star in this league but Chuks is a solid NFL OL.

He was a QB before switching to OT in college.

I don’t get the ‘how much they’re paid’ part of the equation. Pretty much every NFL player on his 2nd contract is making more than a player on his rookie contract at the same position. If the rookie is the better choice to start, start the rookie. There are some positions where experience trumps raw talent 99% of the time. I think CB is one of those positions. But for the most part play the better player. Quality backups are worth paying also.

You certainly can for the rest of this season. After this season? Yeah, he would have to go away. But I think they have reached the point after this season where Chuks is cheaper to cut than keep.

Unless he restructures. But honestly, I’m ok with him riding backup this season.

What if he’s really not that bad and you trade him for Pennie’s on the dollar? I mean Kendrick Green looked much better with the Texans than he did in a Steelers uniform?

Probably has a lot to do with our coaching. Our current O Line coach is just like Canada. Has a long list of jobs that is mostly lateral movements after a usually a year sometimes two. That doesn't speak very highly for someone in any position when you change jobs every year or other year for the same position (and in a few instances actually downgraded positions). That usually means you aren't very good at your job.

We have seen a few O Linemen leave and do better elsewhere over the years. Our line play has been pretty sub par since Munchak left. This is probably Mike Tomlin's worst trait as a coach. His staff has been underwhelming for most of his career. His coaching tree proves that he is not a good evaluator of talent. That is a serious problem that has been mentioned but has not been given that attention that it truly deserves.

Just stick around here long enough....it gets plenty of attention. Comes up in almost every thread!

Also....Meyers is an interesting evaluation. Most NFL observers seem to think well of him but the stats of the offensive units he has been associated with are not impressive. So I have no idea how to feel about him as a fan.
