Well, there goes the DL depth after one game.
In all seriousness though, what do you think the odds are this is Heyward's last season? Injuries can be tough to come back from at his age, especially in a position where you take that kind of beating constantly.
He has a $22M cap number next year, but $16M is base salary we'd save if he was released or retired ...not that I think we're likely to release a player like that, but you wonder if maybe he gets Troy'ed ...

This injury sucks. But that’s all it is. Let him rest the time he needs. I’m not reading any more into it or speculating on it. Cam is a team captain. It sucks to lose him for any amount of time.

not the news any of us wanted to hear for sure , making me all the more frustrated that he went back into the game for a play or two before coming out for good

The run yards they gave up when Heyward left compared to when Heyward was in there was crazy.

That's been going on for close to a decade. I remember a game in 2015 (definitely 2015 because Mike Vick was on the team) and it was basically Heyward, Tuitt, and a bunch of trash ... when those two were in the game, the opponents' offense didn't move; toward the end of the game they would come out more often because they were getting tired, and as soon as Cam "Dirty Dick" Thomas and whatever other shitheads were out there, they marched right down the field on us and scored every time. We haven't really had a good solution ever since.
moral of the story: Two starting-quality defensive linemen isn't enough, even if your third one "isn't on the field enough."

Happened when Aaron Smith got injured…goes all the way back to then. If you don’t have the quality depth, you struggle.
