View Full Version : Chase Claypool Has Reportedly Been Completely Underwhelming For The Bears This Offseason

Marc Silverman, during a recent episode of the Waddle and Silvy radio show, detailed how the former Steelers wide receiver has been woefully underwhelming this offseason.

"I have heard from a few people in that building that he is not somebody who is very self-motivated. All I can tell you is that it isn't trending in a way that the Bears have wanted it to trend this offseason," Silverman said.

As Silverman points out, the Bears are undoubtedly counting on Claypool to turn things around and be a meaningful contributor in 2023.

"Chase Claypool is a guy that they've wanted to see some things from. They have not been able to see those things from him both on and off the field. All those things don't sound great for Claypool going in to training camp," Silverman described.

There must be a reason Steeler’s ex-WRs are ex-WRs.

Do you think these guys foresee this or do you think these players just “give up” when they leave Pittsburgh for these shitty teams?

Tomlin doesn’t get enough credit for getting great value out of these guys during their time in Pittsburgh.

You have AB, Bryant, Claypool, Wheaton and God knows who else I’m not remembering that left Pittsburgh and we’re not even remotely close to the players that they were during their time with the Steelers…

Or was it Ben???

Under Tomlin and with Ben, Eli Rogers was a legit NFL WR(78 recs for 822 yards and 4 TDs) after he left he played XFL and CFL. Mike Tomlin was a WR himself so he probably gravitates toward that position group just a bit more. Sees and hears things that he understands about those players at a different level than others. Just me speculating.

Having Ben throwing you the ball does not hurt.

Remember all the wailing and gnashing of teeth when the Steelers let "Softness" go in that sweetheart of a trade deal (that's only gotten sweeter since)? Gotten a lot quieter on that front all of a sudden.

Meh. "Softness" is a 6'4" WR who consistently played like he was 5'8". That's why the Steelers got rid of him.

Resurrecting this thread to point something out that might help those that are already souring on the 2023 Steelers.

The Bears are considering making Claypool inactive. That's how checked out and non-responsive he is.

While I get that he was underwhelming here versus his seeming vast potential...at least he was a useful and engaged football player.

We can not lose sight of the fact that performances like Sunday's happen sometimes, especially in Week 1. This is not a useless coaching staff that is adrift with no abilities.

even if JPJ doesnt end up being a stud, still it was something for literally nothing

Yeah like mentioned in above post Ben never gets any credit for making WR better. Claypool has even got worse since being traded.

I don’t remember who we were playing. In the redzone and Claypool is supposed to run an out to the sideline, maybe 10&out. He turns a big curl instead and Ben’s pass went right where Claypool was supposed to run to. Ben just stared him down the whole way back to the sideline. Boz kicked it.

Claypool has the talent to succeed. Something just went sideways somewhere.

I’d give them a 6th round pick for him. If some team can figure out where he went sideways, they’ve gotten a bargain…

they likely release him or get a conditional 6th or 7th is my best guess ....teams wont be lined up to sign him so when their is a limited market the returns are sparse ...I could see someone like Andy Reid helping get him back on track and it doesnt hurt to have Mahomes as your QB

I’d sign him back. Problem is he’d have to replace Boykin and that would, most likely, be a downgrade on special teams. Unless they carried 6 receivers….which I would be fine with as well.

I think Gunner is still (somehow) on the roster. I’d trade his spot for a dice role on a giant knucklehead.

Good point…I, gladly, forgot about Gunner.

Watch. They’re gonna find a way to have him put up video game numbers. Like a soft taffy version of Deebo.

Probably…

He’s got talent…we saw it and then it just faded away with his contested jump catches, followed by fall to the ground routines…

If he turns it around in Miami then good for him. He couldn’t keep his job in Pittsburgh or Chicago, so maybe Miami is where he will shine. The Dolphins gave up so little for him he has value right away as just a ST cover man and backup to the backup WR b

Don't be surprised if Claypool does very well in that offense. McDaniel offense creates a lot of space. They have speed everywhere, but not a ton of size. I think he will fit in perfectly in that offense.

He may not have done great here, but he was playing in the slot. When he played early last year, Trubisky had a QB rating around 100 when throwing to Claypool. He would catch the ball short of the sticks and fight like hell for YAC. I know they moved him and he was a bit of a jerk, but he was playing his ass off at least trying. He would fight for every inch every time he touched the ball. He led the WR with most YAC and had chemistry with Trubisky.

Chase Claypool's biggest issue is Chase Claypool ..

At the Pro level you shouldn't need to be motivated that BIG Juicy paycheck should be motivation enough and the opportunity to have even larger more juicy paychecks should reinforce that when things start to go wrong to help you work through it ....

Not Claypool tho nothing seems to motivate him and he has not been the same since he kicked a man while he was down ......

I could go a few different ways with that from there from Football Gods retribution to drugs ... but I simply dont have the motivation or energy to make a case for either as it would all be on perception and gut .......... so I wont
