I’m not certain that they even get into the playoffs without him.

They may not because I think they had to win that Bears game and Bettis pretty much did that himself!

Bettis was like "nah man, how am I supposed to run over Urlacher if I'm playing for da Bears?"

Bettis was a perfect match for the Steelers offense embodied back in the day. One of the greatest, if not the greatest, trade in Steelers history.

A certain quarterback had to make an unbelievable tackle to prevent a game-wining fumble return for a touchdown against the Colts in their playoff game. Bettis was almost the biggest goat in football history.
I love Jerome but they barely survived his blunder on their way to a super bowl.

If not for Bettis, they don’t make it that far.

Maybe. He was mostly a short yardage, goal line specialist, and a closer when the defense was worn down at the end of games. Who's to say they wouldn't have been better with a younger, more talented running back that was more dynamic the entire season? Bettis was a shell of the great player he once was at that point.
I'm not trying to denigrate his great career. It's just that we sometimes romanticize certain players based on who they were in their prime, not who they are at the time. He wasn't the starting RB that year for a reason. Especially at the RB position where it is easy to find talented, younger players.

In 2005,Bettis was a role player at this time but still a very important role players, because he was still great in short yards situation....The steelers have struggle so much in short yard situation in the next few years after the retirement of Bettis

If not for his effort in that Bears game, they don’t make the playoffs. You can’t just add a younger more dynamic running back to history. They had Willie Parker on the roster but Bettis was what won them that game to get to the playoffs. I don’t see Parker bruising his way through that game the way Bettis did.

My point is there were 15 other regular season games and playoff games that another player may have been able to have a positive affect on the season if he was not on the team and they used that money for something else. I'm not going to say that a backup running back was the reason they won a championship. That's just silly. He had a role and he played it well, but he was a complimentary player that year.
You are saying I can't add a player to history. I'm saying that they could have added anybody they could afford...at any position. If they were able to sign a free agent with the money they paid him, who's to say that they couldn't have picked up a player that would have helped the team more than he did. Maybe find someone that would have more impact than he did. Who knows?
In 2005 he played in 12 games. He had 110 rushes for 368 yards, 9 TD's, 3.3 yards per carry. 4 receptions for 40 yards, 2 first downs.
I mean...come on....what are we talking about here?

I’m talking about a roster that was what it was. It was built and they went through a season to the point where if it wasn’t for Bettis, they don’t make the playoffs. It’s really that simple. I’m not talking about, if they change this player or that player…Christ, you could change Ben and things could be better . the roster was built for the season and the season played out. Lol. It’s really that simple.
But there wasn’t a better back on the roster. That’s a fictitious comment and there’s no telling that that “affordable” back would’ve put forth that effort. If Frank Gore were on the roster in 2010, the Steelers may have 7 Super Bowls. He wasn’t…or maybe Damien Woody or some better O-Linemen…but they weren’t. You can’t change history.
His effort in that Chicago game gets that team to the playoffs. If not for that effort, they aren’t there. Plain and simple. Just like Ben’s effort to make the tackle after Bettis fumbled the ball. If not for that effort, they might not advance…
