wouldnt be my way of doing things ...
no way I pick a OT in the top 10 ... we rarely select that high so you have to get a difference maker with that selection ...
if you want to go OT in round 1 trade down get more picks to address other needs as well (and there are plenty of needs)

it often is , that said you can trade back and get great trench workers at 15 and more quality picks to address other needs in this and or the next draft (or both)

I have not taken the time to study this list in any detail. But are there a great # of high end starting LT's taken outside of the top 10?
https://www.drafthistory.com/index.php/positions/t
I'm sure I am just not thinking of it, but I can not come up with a long list of All-Pro caliber guys that didn't go fairly high in round 1.
And as much as I would like the Steelers to consider taking an "elite" LT (whatever that means) with a really high draft pick...does anyone really see them doing that? I think they see Moore and Chuks as their bookends.

Are you getting a significant upgrade on Dan Moore Jr in the late first or early second round?

The OL is garbage right now. You try and replace at least 2 or 3 of them this draft. I don't think Carter (DL) will be there when we pick. He would be tempting.

This is possible but I don't know much the players right now for the 2023 draft. The free agency can be a option too if the steelers are ready to paid over 10-15 millions at this position.

Yep… and YES!!!
(Alas, depending on when we pick, Carter likely isn’t there.)

I think we get 2 OL upgrades and a DL with our first 3 picks. We need to upgrade the OL as much as possible as fast as possible. If that means trading out of the top 5 and picking up an extra 2nd rounder with a lower 1st, then let’s do it. That would get us 4 picks in the first 2 rounds, that could fix the OL, add depth to the DL and ILB. We need to resign Ogunjobi and it would be nice if we could bring back gravedigger in FA also.

thats why I am so set on trading down , we need several pieces , so take the later pick get the 2nd best player at the pos and add the 2nd best at another and third best at another ... they all should equate to better pieces then we have and takes starting jobs making the team better across the board ...
I personally would rather have the 2nd best LT and Best RT over the best LT and still have chuks (per example) ... Chuks is an awesome next man up on either side but he isnt a full time starter on most teams as he does not do anything exceptionally well (except perhaps hold)

The thing is, this draft has zero of those 'freak' players so far on the OL. And the only one on the DL so far is Jalen Carter. There are guys that are supposed to be good players but the freak-type can't miss prospects are missing. If the Steelers do pick in the top10, I don't know who I would want yet.
Best OL by far according to reading the internet is Pete Skoronski. Listed as a 6'4"-295lbs OT, which is why he is expected to move inside to OG in the NFL. Personally, I would welcome this pick but you can see it would be a reach taking a guy and playing him at a different position than what got him drafted so high.
OSU's Paris Johnson is the highest rated NFL-sized OT. Some have him top10 but most have him outside the top10. That tells me he's not a 'can't miss' player. Not yet at least.
Best DL on every draft board I can find is Jalen Carter. 6'3" and 315lbs. His numbers from '20/'21 is 36 tackles and 3 sacks. I haven't caught up to the hype yet. How is his length?
As of today, I would love to trade back out of the top10 and hopefully gain some additional top 50/75 picks in the trade.

It is a "pick'em" type of draft for CBs.
Kelee Ringo (Georgia) is probably the top-rated corner.
Peezy Jr. (Penn St) is my choice... and linked to the Steelers (obviously). His lineage aside, he has had 250+ coverage snaps and given up zero TDs (and a passer-rating of 59.1 allowed).

If they have a Top-3 pick and can get a star QB. I draft one and then try to trade Pickett to Minnesota (or another future QB needy team) for a second round pick…Minnesota, Tampa, commanders, Giants, Seahawks, etc. there’s plenty out there that someone may hand over a 2 for him.

Keep Pickett. Trubisky, AND new rookie QB. Plenty of time to make trades later. If you plan to trade Pickett straight away for another hopeful, just trade the top3 pick and get more in trade.

With drafting CBs, I would think experience and even taking an older guy would be safer than the Steelers usual younger prospect philosophy. The more snaps a DB has in college the better IMO. Maybe every other position group on the field you might prefer the younger guy with everything else equal. But go with the more experienced guy at DB.

I'm not so sure Kahn wants to play second fiddle to anyone , he did that for YEARS here ... he finally got the job (he had interviewed for several times elsewhere) sure they brought in Weidl but I think he is going to be a tool for Khan not the final voice ....
I also wonder if Kahn was promised this job like Butler was the DC job in order to keep them around ...Lebeau was pushed out so Butler wouldn't leave as he was tired of waiting his turn , one must wonder if the same is true for Colbert but I guess that is a topic for potentially another thread I am unlikely to make

There is a new sheriff in town. The rules have changed a bit as well. Now that college stars are making some pretty big money with NIL, what's the rush to leave early and jump to the NFL? There has to be more focus on translatable skills over simply freaks of nature. Sort of changes the Steeler's whole drafting approach.

Broderick Jones is probably the best Tackle in this draft in terms of ready to play right now (but I like Skoronsky a lot and not convinced he changes pos dude has amazing feet and if you dont believe in his ability plug in the tape from last year vs David Ojabo and you will instantly be a believer) ,Back to Jones ... he has the size the arm length the quick feet and power to spare and all with good technique he is rated around the 20th best player so I'd have zero issues moving back to 15 and taking him a bit early if Tackle was my target ...

Myles Murphy is a DE at Clemson and fits what the Steelers look for size-wise and with athleticism. 6'5" and 275lbs with 34"reach. With Leal and Loudermilk already in the DL rotation he may not be enough to warrant the Steelers selection if picking in the top10 though.

Definitely aware of Skoronski. I do like Jones but he's only a sophomore. I would rather he had another year of play experience.
At this early time, I am not against a trade back at all. If the Steelers are in position to take one of the 3 top QBs, take him though. I haven't found a 1st round 'must have' yet.
I posted in another draft thread recently I like the OT at Tennessee, Darnell Wright. He's probably a RT in the NFL but has played both Tackle spots. Maybe a 2nd/3rd round choice?
ND's Jarrett Patterson is the OL I really want the Steelers to draft. I don't really care which round. I think he will be the next DeCastro.

I don't think the owner has a big say for the draft. And the steelers had make only 1 trade in the trade deadline before this year. This year they make 2,so maybe some thing will change with a new front office especially since the steelers are bad right now

You are right, I just misunderstood what DuckHodges said... I'm against taking an OT in the top 10, not a huge game changer.... And often in other teams, they often put their best pass rusher against the other team's weakest o-lineman,so a top olineman has not a huge impact when this is the case

I agree. I stated this elsewhere:
If there is a true #1 LT in a draft, it’s worth it. He can negate the TJ Watts of the world. That said, for the past few years, there’s been 4-5 “top tier” guys in each draft, but not a true #1. In turn, the difference between the first one drafted and the fifth one drafted is essentially just “preference”.
The three guys already listed are currently being debated by mockers as who is the “best” OT in this draft… and in most circles, neither is going top ten (a few have one or even two sliding in at 8 or 9… but for the most part, they are going 11-15).
Top ten, I’m taking Jalen Carter 10 times out of 10.
