View Full Version : Legendarily Bad Steelers team (Goats vs. Eagles)

No one stood out. Complete team loss.

Coaching failed again. Offense stalls again. O-Line is trash again. Defense does what it can. Special Teams is mediocre.

No one is good right now. This is a very bad team. One for the legend books.

Game ball is Claypool. At least he showed some emotion…

Biggest goat is coaching. On field it’s Fitzpatrick.

Tomlin sees nothing wrong and lets Canada keeps his job, then he needs to go too.

Just proves how Ben, even diminished, could use his vet savvy to pull something out. We don't have that anymore.

Goats are Tomlin, Crapnada, and the rest of the coaching staff. Nobody was ready to play. The off gameplan was the exact same BS we have rolled out all season with the same results. We had penalties in all three phases of the game. There were no halftime changes.

Balls were Claypool for playing hard and Warren for also running hard

Worst point differanciel in the league(by far),worst offense in the league....Time for some major change during the bye and it mean nothing if they have a second half like 2013 if we can not build on nothing for next year

The steelers need to wake up that what they have done in the last few years don't work!

Goats: defensive backfield, O line, Harris and DJ for their counterproductive jigs, coaches as a whole: Canada, Tomlin, Austin: the whole sorry lot - Canada should go as soon as possible - the rest, including Tomlin, should be evaluated at season end - I wouldn’t bring any of them back

honorable mention to Claypool and Warren, both had fight in them

Not me…not on either account. They didn’t show improvement all of last season…didn’t show improvement through 6 games…definitely not going to show improvement against a Top-3 team in the league.

It's not about winning. It's seeing improvement, and there is nothing this team has shown anything remotely good or resembling NFL football. Everything about them is inept. Gameplanning. Coaching. Preparedness. Scheming. Its atrocious.

Goats: Too many to list, but Harris, at times, looked like he was toeing the first down marker; easy first downs, then he'd start dancing or running sideways. I'll throw the officiating in here, too. Thought it was a wee bit suspect and don't think I'd ever seen so many false starts on an offense go uncalled as Philly's with their right guard.

Game Ball: The fans deserve one for showing up, or tuning in, for this clunker. That being said, the team wasn't exactly blessed with an easy schedule the last several weeks - but boy oh boy, if they come out the next game on offense and take the same approach...

Warren. 6 runs, 50 yards. 8 yard average. This was a fantastic find.
Claypool. Showed heart and played like a man his size should play. Also had a 100+ passing rating! :chuckle:

Goat.

Everyone else.

QB

Pickett looks to be improving in some areas but also feels like he's flatlined in other areas. Feels like he's hit a ceiling (not his ceiling, just a developmental ceiling) right now. There are some throws that are beautiful. Then, there's others that leave you scratching your head. And then, there's the third type . . . the "just almost!" that end up in interceptions. There's now been what, four? Five? or more throws that looks like he was trying to do just a little too much with the ball, and it ends up getting picked off. It's become a disturbing trend, but again, as a rookie with just a few games under his belt, there's nothing much to say at this point other than, "Let's see what happens next week."

I will say this, though. If we end up losing from here on out and we get a shot at a top draft pick, and a QB is there, we need to take him. Even if Pickett develops into a decent to good QB, the Steelers do not pick high often enough to pass up blue-chip talent . . . again, if it is there.

I really don't follow college football at all. What do next year's QBs look like?

I know that having a really high pick might make something like that tempting, but unless we're looking at an amazing QB prospect, which still is no guarantee of actual NFL success, I'd rather spend it on more of a sure thing player at another position. Or trade down and load up.

I would like to give Pickett a year or two under a real offensive coordinator before giving up on him. spending a top 5 pick on a QB is a gamble that doesn't pan out more often than it does. But obviously we aren't winning another Super Bowl until we get the right QB.

Rotorhead

It’s difficult, my first inclination is to trade down and pick up more picks cause we need a complete overhaul along the OL and a try top DB. I honestly would have no issue using every pick next draft on OL and a punter.

Pre draft last year I wanted Stevenson , I said he did everything Najee did in college and more ( in terms of skillset ) said he would cost less and be as or more effective .... Stevenson as a pro is doing everything I thought he would do he was what a 4th round pick for the Pats ? we had to spend a 1st for far less of a player

Najee just three 100 yard games to date in 25 starts and counting .........

Najee is broken.

3rd-&-4 … Najee catches a two-yard pass. Instead of putting his head down and running over the DB, Najee dances around and gains ZERO yac. The Najee in college and the Najee from the first half of his rookie year gets that first down easily.

SUMMATION:
This offense has turned Najee into a guy who feels he has to “break one” on every play… and thus, he doesn’t take the “easy” yards.

If the Steelers were playing golf they would be on top. It's hard to respect the NFL in the first place and when a team puts garbage on the field there is even less.

I realize this is one take and it may be right. It's not the view I hold. I personally feel he's another guy from Alabama that had inflated stats because of the talent surplus at Alabama. But either way, aside from his ability to catch the ball, he's turned into Benny Snell.

This is what I am seeing also, same with KP. They are trying to be “the guy” to make the big play we need to get a W and it is biting them in the ass. When NH puts his head down and hits the hole, he picks up good yardage. Unfortunately we are ALWAYS behind, and usually by a few TDs so they are trying to make bigger plays. Add to that, the play calls are for 4yd passes and running into the weak side of the line Crapnada feels the receiver/RB should be able to break free and make a big gain, these guys are getting set up to fail before the ball is snapped.

Honestly, it is the whole team doing that. LBers are guessing trying to make big plays. DBs are also trying to jump routes instead of playing their zone. OL trying to cheat a few steps downfield or early into their pass sets. It's basically infected the whole team.

I feared it would happen out of a desire/need to make up for Trubisky. But it happened to make up for the offensive playcaller. This is gotta end.

The Eagles game reminds me of two things:

1. Tomlin was linked heavily to Jalen Hurts (during that draft). The Steelers drafted Chase Claypool instead.

2. AJ Brown all but begged to be a Steeler. Alas, we traded up for The Car Killer and by the time our next pick came around, Brown was long gone.

I don't think Hurts would be good in the Matt Canada offense

Be interesting to see how those types of picks are navigated on a rebuilding team instead of a team that is targeting specific roster holes to band-aid a borderline playoff contender.

I'm sure I was one. And I suspect he does not have this success almost anywhere else. Hurts is lucky the Eagles drafted him. Few organizations would have totally adapted their entire philosophy to help a guy develop. And the Eagles were even mostly "out" on Hurts until this season's run of success. But one more playoff stomping and I suspect they still bail out on him.

It is much like Josh Allen: a good QB coach turned him from a dud into a stud.

No doubt. Coaching has been super important. Hurts has also worked hard. But the Eagles, from top to bottom, have shifted their entire roster construction to helping Hurts be successful.

They didn't just get AJ Brown because AJ Brown is awesome. That certainly didn't harm anything. But Hurts was seriously struggling to complete passes over the middle (sound familiar?) and the rest of the Eagles offense got bogged down as a result. There was a point where they couldn't run the ball out of Hurts scampers. So....what do they do? They go get one of, if not the single, burliest ball winning physical over the middle WR in the entire league. Then they re-jigger their offense to feature Brown running routes ON THE MOVE over the middle and what do you know? Hurts is now dicing teams up over the middle of the field.

Obviously, it isn't that simple. I realize that Hurts did several other things to improve his game and the Eagles made a variety of other tweaks/improvements besides just getting AJ Brown.

I just wanted to highlight that when you have a good plan and a coherent overall system....this crap all gets easier. In contrast....the Steelers are just trying to do this all on legendary mode.
