I honestly didn't think he would play this season, but hopefully he can come back and provide some much needed explosiveness to the offense.

CAIII returns to practice today but remains on the Reserve/Injured List.
They have 21 days to activate him to the 53-man roster.
If not activated, he’s out for the 2022 season.

I'm sure Matt Canada will call 5 jet sweeps in a row with CA3.
Seriously, can't wait to see him on the field.

Jet left, jet right, fly pattern. But throw it to Najee…

Just make sure they throw it to Najee on 3rd down well short of the sticks.

I still doubt he plays. He might get a chance in the last 5-6 games if he stays healthy and other guys get dinged.

Was it ever put out there exactly what his foot injury was/is?
RunNGun

Yeah I would still be surprised if he plays too. A year trying to pack on some pounds would benefit him greatly, imo. But at the same time we could really use his big play capability.

I'd like to point out that 86Ward and myself posted the exact same thread at the exact same time today. What are the odds? Lol

I totally forgot about him. If he comes back and plays great just another reason to get rid of Claypool.

Now the word is (https://www.si.com/nfl/steelers/news/belief-pittsburgh-steelers-calvin-austin-injured-reserve) he may be done for the season. If this is the case then trading Claypool makes ZERO sense.

Since the injury occurred I've personally questioned whether he will ever play a down for the Steelers. Reminds me of Senquez for some strange reason.

It [the foot] feels great. It was definitely good being back out there. Definitely was a little winded, but besides that, everything felt good,” Austin said (https://youtu.be/3gGcMhnF_tE) in his interview via the Steelers’ YouTube channel. “At this point, it’s just continuing to just perform out there and wait for coach [Mike] Tomlin’s word.”
this sounds way way less optimistic and since they did not ( at least to my ears) activate him Wednesday he is done for the year as I understand anyways

My Bad for assuming this guy knew what he was talking about next time I will do my own math ....
Heading into the game with the Miami Dolphins, the Steelers are facing having to activate the rookie or lose him for the year because of the NFL injured reserve rules. Like I said my wife as a Division volleyball player and injured hers in her late 20's. She was never the same again. Granted she didn't have the medical care available to these guys but to this day (she's 50 now) it still hurts her from time to time and she'll have to spend a week or so doing home rehab with a ball on her foot.

The 21-day window to activate WR Calvin Austin III from the Reserve/Injured List has expired. He will remain on the Reserve/Injured List for the remainder of the 2022 season.

Makes zero sense not activating him. This offense could use some speed.
Assuming not having played in a Stadium(per Tomlin, *eye roll*) played a factor, like that fucking matters when watching this offense.

none of the rookies played in a NFL stadium until ya know they played in an NFL stadium ... such a piss poor reason IMO also ... the kid is electric let that electricity flow ... but nooooooo

We still have Gunner Olszewski on the active roster with his 0 catches and 8 punt returns with a 25% fumble rate. This is the kind of Tomlin bullshit that's infuriating. Sticking with known bums instead of giving someone else a chance.
I wonder if they were worried he missed too much time to catch up. I mean, he'd have to learn like 3 different plays.

I'd be able to buy that if when asked Tomlin would have just said that but he didnt ...
and if he wasnt healthy why would have have been practicing ?

Why would Tomlin mention it if he doesn't have to?
He's always been incredibly cagey with player availability and information.

Correct. Tomlin has been taking that Belichick line more and more as time goes by…

Why would you draft a guy you never wanted to play? He has to be hurt, letting someone just sit on IR is ridiculous.
I'm telling you this team has a 4 win team written all over it. Probably 6 wins when TJ comes back but not a very high ceiling.

Because what's the point of that when a guy is out for the season? You don't gain anything, you just make yourself look like some kind of wanker.

From the perspective that fans deserve information and details.
Football coaches do not believe that. They believe the less said about anything the better. All the time.

I wonder if coaches are actually right about that. I understand there's no way to really figure it out, and I suppose we'd rather have our coach value winning FAR more than being truthful of informative, but I wonder if being cagey and non-forthcoming actually ever equates to wins that would have otherwise been losses. And of course I'm not talking about giving away strategy or information that would help your opponents. Nobody wants that.
We obviously have to marvel at the results Bill Belichick has had over his career, but do any of us really believed he would have lost more games if he'd been more forthcoming about (non-strategic) things in interviews?
Is there anything Tomlin could have said or held back about Austin that would have equated to wins and losses on the field? Only if the truth would hurt or upset a player and would therefore result in a lack of trust or leadership, which can eventually affect wins and losses in the long term. But I very much doubt that's often the case with these things.

I think you’re totally correct. It’s just a weird Coach thing.
I think they figure the less they say the quicker their media session is.

Well that's dumb. Like, come on, use some common sense, Mike.
"The guy fucked up his foot again. So he wasn't playing before and he's not playing now either."
Done and dusted. That's all it takes. And nobody else gained a killer edge from that insight.
