Tomlin to Timmons: "You know I love you, right?"

Forget quarterbacks. The real story of the 2010 Pittsburgh Steelers is that Lawrence Timmons is here to destroy you - quietly.

In a year of unprecedented (and mostly undesirable) attention from the media, one of the biggest stories on the Pittsburgh Steelers (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/pittsburgh-steelers) is being criminally ignored: Lawrence Timmons (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/16797/lawrence-timmons) has become one of the best linebackers in the NFL. Even though many of Timmons' contributions have been obvious to Steeler fans, praise (http://www.timesonline.com/sports/sports_details/article/1501/2010/october/03/timmons-realizing-potential.html) for his play has been remarkably scant (http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/10259/1087889-66.stm)..........................................

And please allow it to continue to be that way.

But I do love the poll at the end of the article:

<H5 class=poll-title>How many Browns will Lawrence Timmons take down in Week 6?

0-4. Timmons is a fluke, and I am an idiot. (already counting on the browns fans vote)
5-7. A decent day for a lesser backer.
8-9. He'd have more opportunities if there weren't going to be so many three-and-outs.
10+ Timmons will also tackle Eric Mangini, just for the hell of it. (and counting on the Steelers fans too)

</H5>

Like the way Timmons approaches the game - quiet confidence, and he might be next on my "jerseys to purchase" list.

He doesnt have an annoying celebration after every tackle ala "Ray Ray " but he will start to get the attention if he keeps up his play. He has looked absolutly fantastic this year and I think its also rejuvnated Farrior as well.

I was expecting Timmons to have this kind of year last year. He is a monster and he will stomp on some Browns this week.

This year it is the most improved player of the Steelers and maybe the NFL too.

It is amazing this year .... I do not think he will win the defensive player of the year, but I think it will be a candidate.

We can say that the Steelers drafted two star players in 2007 with Timmons and Woodley.

And we need a signed long term contract has Woodley, Timmons and Polamalu after the 2010 season!

Timmons was Tomlins first choice when he took over the helm. Am i wrong? He fostered the young man,and i am sure he continues to do so.(the pic can attest to that). If he understands his role,as is a must in our system,he is fine with performing his duties. The fame will come after the blood , sweat , and tears are put in. I read somewhere, that we have our own LT. Keep up the good work ethic, and stay healthy, and the rest will follow closely behind. (or was it Woodley?)

Ok.

What do you do, when three players from your defense all are in the running for DPOY? I could legitimately see Troy P. Timmons, or James Harrison. Heck. If players were really selected to the probowl by performance, I could see six Steelers D in the probowl as first string. I'd even argue one or two more maybe as backups.

You are too well rehearsed for a response to that question. It is still early in the season to go that route. What team did have the most probowl players at one time? I can ask that, since i will not be debating you....which i love, and rellish. LOL For real, what team did have the most pro-bowl selections?

Man is a beast. Should make the pro bowl if he keeps it up. Could lead the league in tackles as well.

I was really irritated when I felt we overlooked our biggest need (offensive line) that year by drafting Timmons and Woodley.....

I'm not so irritated anymore. :bounce:

Actually, I am not sure which team had the most probowl players, my guess would be 76 Steelers.

I am not quite willing to go that far yet... however, I am quietly becoming impressed with this kid. He seems to be mean, and plays with attitude. IF he CAN become the next ILB at the level of our other LB's, imagine that corp staying together for the next 10-12 years (outside of Harrison).

From what everyone was saying like the way he tackles etc etc he seemed to have that "it" factor of being where the ball was when he was in the game. He has played well on ST as well.

It just seems like the Steelers have brung Timmons along in the right direction. He kinda gives you the feeling you have not seen everything he has to bring yet. He is biden his time. He is still behind a year right? Just Tomlins hand on his shoulder tells me he is still in a mentoring role.

I just did a quick search and it would not let me copy it. I don't blame them. Never know what damage i could do to a copy. They said the 2009 Jets had 7 players went to the pro-bowl. My search was the most.

I've been talking about him since i saw how much muscle he'd packed on in the off-season. He's a beast.

I did a quick count over a number of years.... 61 to 81, and I got Miami in 1973 at 12, and Pittsburgh once or twice at 11.

umm... there's usually a reason a pro player packs on a lot of muscle in one off-season.

Just sayin'

I thought it would be higher than 7 players.I did not do a fine tooth comb search, but wow 12 players, and even 11 is like a whole offense,or defense.I kinda thought that 7 was low,but 11 and 12 wow.
