I’m not normally quick to turn negative. But I am currently of the mind Tuitt is not coming back. And if he does he will probably be way out of shape after an entire season out. Does anybody know the details of his knee injury? I read recently, maybe an article on here, Butler says he doesn’t know if Tuitt plans to return. That and now he’s selling his home add up to he’s not interested in coming back. I hope I’m completely wrong. I hope he comes back and has a comeback player of the year type season. It just doesn’t feel like that though. Does it?

I think somebody asked Tomlin in his final press conference if he had been a in contact with Tuitt (or something to that extent) and he responded no with no further explanation. I think Tuitt is done and I think the Steelers are done with Tuitt.

He should come back on a lesser deal given how patient the Steelers were this year and how much they paid him - for nothing.

Wasn't there reports of the Steelers trying to trade for Fletcher Cox at the deadline? I wonder if that door opens back up if Tuitt doesn't return.

If the Steelers choose to cut ties with Tuitt this offseason, it’s going to cost them. If Tuitt is cut prior to June 1, It would save the team around $4.3 million but also create $9.68 million in dead money. After June 1, the cap savings go up to $9 million and dead money drops to $4.9 million.

Doesn’t look good, but then maybe he’s just moving to another area in the general vicinity - it’s all speculation at this point. But it does look like the Steelers have to look for another DLineman in the draft or FA just to be safe

If it means I don’t have to watch Mondeaux play NT then by all means!

Death of his brother affected him more than whatever knee injury he had

I cant help but wonder if there ever was a knee injury ??? from the sketchy , illusive mentions of him his mental state always seems to come up but not delved into ... I cant help but wonder ... is there more than we know ? did he have plans to go with his brother and cancel putting his brother in a completely different location when he was hit ? idk just thinking out loud but something just doesn't feel quite right ....

Favre tossed 5 td passes the day his dad passed away
Harvin missed 2 weeks while losing his grandmother and father in that span

Tuitt an entire season + and still talk of his mental status ???

But what if Tuitt is the one who cuts ties? It is not like the Steelers said don’t come back. He is choosing to not be here.

I don't know, man. A torn pectoral by itself has ended many good defensive linemen's careers. A bum knee by itself has also ended many good defensive linemen's careers. Getting both in two years does not inspire one with confidence. It seems more like the trajectory of a guy whose body just can't take it anymore, and if he did come back, might never be the same player anyway. It happens to some guys sooner than others, it's nobody's fault. It's not an easy sport to play, especially that position. If he recognizes it's over, nothing anyone can do.

There’s no standard on grieving. Everybody is different.

I dunno my guess but the way they are keeping mum about it reminds me of when Sweed was not playing and they were really secretive about it. If it's mental issues then they can't discuss it so I have no idea.

I agree with this but at some point you have to move on, especially when he has such as small window to earn money. But to each their own, it is ultimately his decision.

So True.

If he isnt up to playing football any more in his life and needs more time, then that is his decision. Happy trails, best of luck and who is the next man up?

No matter what, I wish Tuitt nothing but the best and if he is struggling I hope that he surrounds himself with the support that he needs.

I lost a very close friend a little over 3 years ago due to drug and alcohol abuse. Yesterday was his birthday and it was still a struggle even now. The stages of grief are real. There is no one path.

Don't think for a minute he was a bombed out shell of a human. He had 2 Masters degrees and was a very accomplished musician with one of his Masters in performance piano. I just understand when people see drugs and alcohol they tend to think less of someone. Like 86 said, Everybody grieves differently.

This is true for the first couple or three years. They usually say after that if someone is still struggling to make it each day then its time for professional help. ( Not disagreeing with you at all, your comment just reminded me of that.)

if you are grieving to the point that you cant function in society or your everyday life , it is time to check yourself in to an institution.

I agree, not to sound like an asshole, but when my dad died, I took a week off from work and school, then it was back to business. If I asked my job for an entire year off to grieve, and still get paid, they'd laugh at my face before firing me. And I don't make close to the millions Tuitt made from being on IR this year. Considering all that cash he made for not playing a single snap, forgive me if I don't feel any sympathy for him

 I mentioned in the Draft section (and probably should have added it here) that Cam Heyward was at the Combine (watching his brother) and mentioned that Tuitt (and Alualu) were coming back.

Woohoo, that clears up a big hole for this team, DL is off the list of needs for this off season!

You're not being negative, as this is a good thing, since he's never become anything close to what we needed, nor has he found any way of staying on the field for any significant period of time. He was no Ziggy Hood thankfully, but also ended up not being a decent replacement for the DL before him.

I'd venture to say his stat line disagrees with you and so will most posters here , Tuitt only has a handful of men on the planet that rival his ability and when I say handful I literally mean you can count them on one hand ... take away his rookie year where most rookies for the steelers do not start much and he is averaging 12.5 starts a season ....

Tuitt not coming back would be a negative thing actually. Fortunately for the Steelers, it seems now there has been some communication and Tuitt is indeed planning to return in 2022. That is a positive thing.
