Although not the popular choice, if the Steelers were to take a mid round (3-5) QB to develop, who would you take if you were the GM?

***Please just refrain from posting if all you have is, “Either take a QB in the first round or not at all.” You’re already documented elsewhere and on the record.

I would guess the early and "buzzy" name would be Zappe.

And at this point...Ridder has likely dropped into the middle rounds.

If Corral, Strong, Pickett, or Howell are there in R3, I take them without thinking twice.

reward > risk

But, being more true to the idea behind this thread:

Malik Willis, Liberty
Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati (may have just dropped)

But, that’s about it. There are two guys who would be good R6-R7 picks:

Bailey Zappe, Western Kentucky
Stetson Bennett, Georgia

That performance in the playoff dropped Ridder into the mid rounds.

Not that it matters, the Steelers are going the Brister/O'Donnell route with Mason next season. So they already have a mid-round stopgap QB.

I definitely think that at least one of the guys discussed as a potential first rounder will drop. Zappe is also interesting, although I only saw him once. A sleeper and late riser is Jack Coan. As a Notre Dame fan I actually wanted him benched the first 2-3 games, but after he got used to the offense he thrived. I’d consider him in R6. He might just be a backup, but I expect Rudolph to be gone after next year.

I watched enough Coan here to last me for a good while.

I did hear he's looked better at ND.

I think he'll be a turnover machine in the NFL.

Matt Corral injured his knee. That sucks for him.

(He’ll drop into Day 2.)

I’m sure you did. I felt the same way the first few games at ND. But he really has shown a lot the past 7-8 games.

Good for him. He's an easy guy to root for. Plays hard every down.

X-Rays were negative. Worst case scenario Is he can’t participate in combine. Good for him…combine sucks anyway.

JT Daniels would be a good gamble if available 4-5 round. Lost job at usc due to injury and derailed his college career.

I think Aqeel Glass could be a decent pickup [emoji1742]

Indeed  I mentioned him in another thread.

He’d be the first Undrafted-RFA that I contact.

Yeah, when Corral walked into the med tent, it didnt look like a break, but a high ankle sprain. I still think at this point he is one of the top 2 QB off the board in the Draft.

As for mid-late round guys. If Brock Purdy has a decent postseason week at the Shrine game, he would put himself in that later half of the draft I think.

Glad to hear that for him!

What's crazy is that sometimes guys like him seem to get it all at once at the NFL level and succeed. Tom Brady was an also-ran at Michigan. No one would have seen the GOAT in their wildest imagination.

If they take a QB in the first round I think it will be Corral unless for some lucky reason Pickett is still there. Obviously if we bring in a QB or even decide to start Rudolph then you have to go after a guy like Tyler Linderbaum or Evan Neal.

I like Bailey Zappe Western Kentucky University
62 td 11 int. and 5967 passing yds in 2021 [per ESPN] really good numbers that's hard to overlook hard to do at any level I think with a good Draft process his stock could rise some but I like this kid in the mid rounds of the draft presently.
